World leaders everywhere cringe now when thinking of our country, the once great America. I wonder how many will line the parade route. And I wonder if anyone will die. Will people stand in front of those stupid tanks like that brave soul did in Tiananmen Square so many years ago?

HI2thDoc's avatar

And those world leaders are wondering how in the hell We the People of the United States of America allowed, nay, made this madness happen.

Norton Lovold's avatar

Now we need a march on Washington more than ever!!!

Nancy's avatar

Hmm; a march, or just have NO ONE SHOW UP AT ALL? :D

I've seen another meme, can't recall if it were on here or elsewhere on Substack, but it featured a photo of Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen and Taylor "Hey, I'm a Billionaire Too, Fuckwads" Swift and a speculation about a free concert by those two...somewhere else in D.C., on June 14th. ;-)

Christie sebo's avatar

You know those Republicans have gotten so good at distraction, we must start playing their game. Look over here this is way more interesting. For the low price of free 99! Free parking for free people included.

The United States military swears an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States not an oath of loyalty to Donald Trump! As long as our military upholds their oath - the people of the United States should stand with and support our military.

Nancy's avatar

Yeah, amen. No rocks thrown at the Marines, my Angelenx brothers and sisters; I wanna be able to march on June 14th. :-/

EDIT: Well, I tried, but couldn't get within miles of the place! :D Next time (I'm guessing, either the weekend of Juneteenth or July 4th [a Friday! :D]), to heck with it; I'll sit out on my sidewalk in a deck chair if I have to with my flags and t-shirt and hat. I could use anything then for my flag poles, even -- gasp! =8-0 -- my scary extendable METAL RODS (back scratchers)!

I’m just praying for no violence where rumps troops are. Protesters please don’t give him what he wants!

Teri Gelini's avatar

Agree. Do not give them the slightest opportunity to attack us.

Kathryn Loafman's avatar

They don’t need a reason. They don’t need a pretext. Prepare accordingly (at the very least write your name and phone number on your arm) and “keep your eyes on the prize “.

skangirl's avatar

And if people are concerned that they will be tracked, carry a burner phone. (Those things can take video, yes?) Regardless, be ready to take video of anything that starts to smell like ill douché's diaper.

Robot Bender's avatar

There was no reason in LA. They did it anyway. We're only a tiny step away from martial law.

skangirl's avatar

"marital law"? Paging Dr. Freud!

Robot Bender's avatar

@#$%& autocorrect! I'll change it. 😆

Nancy's avatar

Yeah, no rocks, bottles, any weapons. :-/

He'd smile that chicken-killin'-dog smile to think of us all locked up, waiting for planes. X-P

Heh heh heh! Like I wrote before, if the fatty wants a war, tell the tiny-digited to bring it!

I have burned bras, sat-in, marched, held arms across streets, written letters and made signs. I am 75 with great gunsight...😂

I will not abide the Millers, especially Stephen, or 47s idea of leadership.

No one is afraid of him, except the faux citizens of this delicate balance of reality and the ideal.😍😎😂😇🤗

Oh and Beauteous Day!!!!! Our thanks to You, Beloved Ones

Wendy Burton's avatar

I turned 75 on Friday so I know how hard the ‘60’s and 70’s were. I’m with you and so are many others 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️

Mary Hall's avatar

I'm 70 on my next BD. Can't believe that WE ARE STILL FIGHTING THIS SH!T more than 50 fking years later!

Punkette's avatar

Wooo, Mary! My partner turns 70 also, next month. Let’s hear it for the 1955 models! 🍾💃🏽🕺🏼

Robot Bender's avatar

I'll be 68 soon. I was raised out of the country and was a bit too young to really know about the 1960s. I never thought I'd witness something even worse.

Punkette's avatar

True that, Robot! I am 66 and a half. Take care and have a fantastic birthday celebration, despite all the craziness! 🎉

Mary Hall's avatar

Many cool people were born in 1955 -- Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Bill Nye (the Science Guy), Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young (AC/DC), Rick Steves (European Travel Writer), Reba McIntyre, Dana Carvey, and a load of other actors, et al.

Punkette's avatar

Yay, very cool! I am a 1959er …

Kay G's avatar

I was born in 1956 - agree with all of you. I agree - we are back to fighting this crap. But if I die fighting it - it’s a good way to die!

Robot Bender's avatar

🎂 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊

Punkette's avatar

Yay!!! Happy Birthday, Wendy! 🍾🌹

As much as I despise Lone Smuk and his egotistical personal eugenics crusade, I'm hoping he convinces Stephen Miller's wife to be another Smuk fetus incubator. That would humiliate Miller appropriately.

Christine Chapman's avatar

Blimey! My Beloveds, You truly bring a joyously devious grin to this "wise cracks" face!

Thankbyouse all!😍🤗😁

Tail-end of the Baby Boom here; turned 60 late last year. :)

I vaguely remember the '60s; I do remember writing Nixon a letter protesting Vietnam, 'cause it was the last thing I ever wanted to see on our TV at 6 pm while we were trying to eat dinner. I didn't understand what we were doing over there, what we thought was good about it, and my dad had been a WWII vet in Europe...

I got sort of a kind of an "answer," something like an official pat on the head letter (probably signed by a secretary or Official Signer of Presidential Souvenirs) and a whole exciting folder of info about D.C., the White House, the President's job, and U.S. history, which I could take to Show and Tell at school. :)

No real answer, though... :-/

PhunnyPhillyGirl's avatar

PLEASE, Dear God and everyone of Your resistance…

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

They're looking for an excuse to enact Marshal Law.

If the ARMY shows up at your No Kings Protests:

SIT DOWN

LOWER SIGNS

NO WARRANT, NO SEARCH.

REMOVE ALL FACIAL AND FINGERPRINT RECOGNITION FROM YOUR PHONE.

PLEASE BE SAFE.

Contact the ACLU if you are arrested.

PhunnyPhillyGirl's avatar

Take NO ID with you to the protest.

PhunnyPhillyGirl's avatar

You are not required to present ID if you aren't doing anything. They aren't entitled to it.

Nancy's avatar

But, but, but...we're in L.A.! There's no way to get to the protest sites unless you drive (literally; this is southern California, after all), and driving without a driver's license isn't a good thing... :-/

Amanda Perkins's avatar

Anxiety and depression are real, especially in the face of facism. But, rebellions are built on hope, and you give hope to many. I may not be able to be on the front lines, but I appreciate that you are and I'm proud to be a subscriber and I hope that thru that subscription it might give you a little piece of strength to know that you are needed, wanted, and appreciated.

Republican at this point are un-American

Nancy's avatar

"Some of my best friends are Republicans," including my beloved hubby of 35+ years, but they all consider themselves Schwarzenegger-type Republicans: fiscally conservative, socially liberal. To a person, they detest what's happened to their party, and haven't voted for their party for president for at least 3 times now. Even in state and local elections, they haven't voted down the list of straight party lines on their ballots.

Here in California, we have to vote for our registered party in presidential primaries (dammit), but back in 2016, there was at least one sane Republican left in that Clown Car from Hell; it's just that he'd dropped out in -- despair? Disgust? Ran out of the $$$$$ you need to run for public office in this country? -- by the time they allowed us to vote in California, but me hubster wrote in his name anyway. X-P

Another friend HATED Hilary Clinton, and yet voted for her anyway because she was not Trump.

Yet another buddy considers herself a "Log Cabin Republican" because she's an LGBTQIA+ ally.

(And yeah, there's even some Trumpeters in our gang; we don't talk to them any more unless we absolutely have to. They know better than to bring up politics when we have our unofficial school reunions. X-P)

Darlene Reese's avatar

Dear God, never forget you are surrounded by angels that ADORE you and hold your words sweeter than any chic fil a sauce! Give em hell, God!

Mary Hall's avatar

NEXT SATURDAY is a nation-wide protest against all of this sh!t. Go to www.nokings.org to find your local group. Show up, bring a sign, and prepare to meet some awesome people!

PhunnyPhillyGirl's avatar

Please...KNOW YOUR RIGHTS (caps for emphasis, not yelling at you 😁), and stay safe

Kay G's avatar

Understand - I use caps not to “yell” but to emphasize also. It’s more of a ad technique to vary the lettering and catch the eye.

Wendy Burton's avatar

Who didn’t see this coming? Dead Cheeto TACO 🌮 wants his big birthday bash and you want to spoil it, how dare you peaceful protesters. He will turn the whole military on you. Be careful, be safe and please stay peaceful. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦♥️

Nancy's avatar

Amen. Nothing that could be considered a weapon. :-/

HI2thDoc's avatar

Back in 2015, a routine military exercise called Jade Helm 15 was made into a conspiracy theory by Russian bots and amplified by fucking lunatic Alex Jones. Right wing paranoiacs charged that the exercise was not an exercise but was a build up for Obama to declare martial law. Greg Abbott, Cancun Cruz, and dumbshit Louis Gohmert all reacted with alarm and gave the conspiracy theory even more credence. Contrast that manipulative bullshit with now, when this openly aspiring dictator is invoking emergency laws without cause, calling up the National Guard without invitation from the governor of California, and staging a hugely expensive and wasteful "parade" to bolster his ego and presage his wet dream of declaring martial law. What do we hear from those same right wing kooks about this? A big fat fucking nothing. A fake takeover by a Black Democratic president? Grab your guns! 'Murica in peril! Now, a bona fide authoritarian fixing to actually oppress the American people? Crickets. The former GOP is nothing but traitors to our creed and our freedoms.

Nancy's avatar

Meh, just the people in office right now. Sadly, the sane Republicans I know have no real power, other than as voters (who did NOT vote for Trump at any time). :(

TaraSK's avatar

Yeah. With the electoral college the way it is, blue votes in red states and vice versa rightfully feel disenfranchised. I don't know the answer. But the system has to change.

Nancy's avatar

They're trying with the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, but they still need something like 61 votes...sigh:

https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

At least, if it passes, we won't be harming a hair on the Electoral College's head, but just doing an end-run around it. ;)

TaraSK's avatar

IMHO, the #1 thing that would really change everything is to get the $ out of politics. Period. Not just end Citizens United and require disclosure (because who has time to research a candidate), but public funded elections and they only get paid by us. This would hopefully mean actual citizens could maybe be "representatives". Elections only a month or 2. A billionaire and a Joe Scmoe only get to spend X on a campaign. Voter gets a pamphlet where the candidate states their case (with supporting background verified) and that's it. Of, By & For the People. I know it's totally Pollyanna, but if I'm gonna dream I will dream big! 🤣

Nancy's avatar

Yer not alone, luv; apparently, that's the way every other "civilized" country on the planet does it. Our expensive, lengthy chaos apparently confuses just about everyone in Europe, and probably even in the U.K., where there are laws about such things just as you mentioned. ;)

One of the more depressing problems is that this country has seemingly always "followed the money," and the companies that will hire politicians the minute they get voted out will only let them have those cushy jobs if they voted "properly" beforehand. X-P

Then there are folks like Strom Thurmond, whom, I will admit, seemed to be a career politician, with nothing else in mind after retirement (did he retire? or did he finally keel over in office? can't recall atm), which meant he could screw over the country for decades... X-P

Anne Johnson's avatar

Nothing distracts his base like protests. Sending in soldiers is how he “owns the libs.” And it’s the perfect deflection at this moment when the truth about him and Epstein is hovering over him. Dear God, I am sorry this is taking a toll on you. But wow, I get it.

Kay G's avatar

But it makes him look like a weakling - I mean - Really?? You sent in the National Guard over a little protest - a car got 🔥. Sorry but that happens after a football championship?? WTF

The LA police had it handled?

Nancy's avatar

OHH, yes they had, and don't think they weren't PISSED OFF about the Feds barging into their jurisdiction... X-P

NO ONE, not the Mayor of L.A., not the L.A. County folks (and the sheriff), not our governor, /no one/ called for the National Guard for help, nor will we be calling the military. It's just yet another unconstitutional thing the Trumpster Fire has done (he needs to read the 9th and 10th Amendments...or have someone read them to him that could teach a kindergartner the same thing).

Wondering if I’ll get arrested on June 14 while carrying my sign that says “DEAD—Donald Exhibits Advanced Dementia” in li’l Winston Salem NC? Yeah, come and get this little 72-yr-old white lady, you ICE goons!

Nancy's avatar

Ooh, I'm too chicken for such a sign, frankly; I'll just be carrying li'l flags (U.S. [to remind us they're supposed to be our ALLIES], Mexico, Ukraine, Canada) attached to telescoping back scratcher poles (and hope some trigger-happy goon in L.A. won't think they're weapons...) and wearing my "Hey, if he can run again, so can Obama! :D"-category T-shirt with the artwork:

"HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN? Last seen leaving a large white house...if found, please return to said house!" (or something along those lines; it's in the hamper for its first pre-wear wash ;-D)

During DT's first term I took a course in non-violent techniques with George Lakey. He is an amazing person and knows the value of NON VIOLENT demonstrations. By being non-violent you actually get the sympathy and support of the general public.

Here are two videos on his techniques and methods.

How We Win: Reflections on Nonviolent Direct Action Campaigning

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRUjPcn9Chk

39 Ways to (Nonviolently) Overthrow a Dictator

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPA8h2aUDLA

One big take-away from the course was "If in doubt, sit down!" in order to de-escalate the situation.

In Solidarity

Nancy's avatar

Ohh, yeah; just about all the sites I've looked through for June 14th events in our area here in L.A. have listed suggestions along those lines, basically: if violence starts, whoever starts it, everyone else, /immediately/ get down. Make it absolutely clear to the armed goons that we're not the ones to worry about, at least in that moment. /nod
