I grew up with an openly gay Uncle Freddie. In the 60s! His partner was killed when a bunch of homophobic men threw him off a roof in Greenwich Village. In the 60s. (Rest in peace, Uncle Harold.)
My family never had negative feelings towards gay people. People were people. So I grew up confused as to why people were so mean.
I learned why, unfortunately.
I don't know you, but I wish you grew up in a family like mine. We had MAJOR problems in many other ways, but being gay wasn't one of them.

I’m guessing almost everyone has a gay family member, but may not know it. Someone you love is gay. I have two gay family members - and they are much loved by their parents, siblings and extended families. One is in his late 40’s, the other, a girl, is a senior in high school. He is engaged to his long time partner, she is dating a classmate. Nothing the Trumpies can legislate is going to make them straight, it’s the way they are. So why do the Repugs want to punish people for simply wanting to live honest lives? What makes these people so incredibly mean?
