Amen. It disgusts me when they say they are Christian, but they care so little for others.

Nancy G's avatar

They are blind to the fact that calling oneself a Christian does not make you one, no more than does showing up in church on Sunday. Only when one’s mind and heart absorb its meaning do the words and rites come together to make one a true Christian.

They’re Christian in name only.

The whole “mental health” deflection makes me so fricking angry.

- Every single country has underfunded mental health services but only the US has the issue of mass shooters with ridiculously easy access to firearms.

- statistically, people with mental health issues are more likely to be victims of crime, not perpetrators but by trotting out the “mental health” excuse every time a mass shooting occurs, they demonise and cast suspicion on anyone with a mental health illness, which in turn makes it harder for people to reach out and ask for help.

- Even if they genuinely believe the problem is untreated mental health issues, why the fuck do they not want to stop people with untreated mental illnesses from having easy access to weapons??

As an outsider looking in, the whole gun worship culture in the US is baffling. The idea of children having regular shooter drills at school that leave them with PTSD is horrifying and the thought of my child being murdered in their classroom is terrifying.

If only it demonised and cast suspicion on gun freaks in the same way.

Dear Lord - let us not forget the arrogant 6 souls on scotus who have opened the pandora’s box with thinly reasoned nonsense that plays well into the gun lobby.

Perhaps the fence around their halls of justice should be removed. Maybe we could cease all screening of firearms for their hearings and announcements. Indeed if it is ok for people to have concealed carry anywhere, why not allow citizens to carry a vast assortment of WMD into any part of their building (especially their chambers and clerks offices).

CJ Roberts - “tear down” these impediments to the freedoms of our citizens.

Or maybe these idiots need to get a grip on what is happening in much of America today.

Amen

Oh Dear Lord please watch over the loved ones who joined you so unexpectedly yesterday and smite those in Congress for ignoring all the sensible gun laws and mental health laws put in front of them because the money they get is better than living humans.

That's beautiful.

I've said it before and I'll say it again and so often because it bears repeating: White Christian Nationalists are the modern day Sadducee and Pharisee. They're the lukewarm Christians that Jesus warned you about.

V for Violet 🆘's avatar

They’re not even lukewarm. They’re the false Christians the Bible warns us about and tells us how to recognize: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-20)

Thanks for quoting God’s Word! Amen and Amen!🙏

Um, a suggestion. If republicans want garbage gun laws, maybe they should experience the consequences firsthand: surrender their youngest child to pick a place (the foster care system?).

Vote for guns - lose a child.

Republicans never give a shit about anything unless it happens to Them....😉

Just a petty thought.

Amen! I am in my 70s and grew up in an America where children were sacred, and all adults tried to protect them even if they were the children of others. Most of we rural kids also had and were trained in the safe use of guns at early ages. We watched the TV westerns where guns came out as the last resort to obtain justice. The weapons used in the westerns were the Winchester rifles and the Colt 45 revolvers. Those were also the most popular weapons we used. Now we have movies where bullets are spraying from the beginning to the end with mostly the military style weapons guys like me carried in Vietnam. We now have guys parading around even in stores, wearing camouflage and carrying their assault weapons. When I came back to my world from Vietnam, I was so happy I no longer needed to carry a gun everywhere to feel safe. My own children were also safe when they went to school. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR YOUNG ADULTS that they will allow this to continue?

With abortion bans & no effective gun legislation as well as other restrictions, me thinks the magats want everyone who isn't white, male, & godly to die so they can live in their form of utopia.

Amen! A friend of mine was talking about how perhaps schools should have their main entrance as 2 sets of double doors, each operated electronically, similar to how prisons (or in a less drastic depiction, space station airlocks) work. One set opens, then another after people coming in have been cleared via CCTV. He said There should also be a system in place to incapacitate any potential threat via tear gas. I kind of agree with him, since it's clear nothing will be done about guns themselves unless there is a very drastic shift in the government. Overall, it's highly disappointing that we even have to HAVE such conversations, but welcome to America: land of gun care and health control.

Bronwyn Halls's avatar

Face it, though: You'd need those systems not just on schools but on EVERY building, EVERY shopping mall, EVERY park and stadium… anywhere that humans gather.

John S. Way's avatar

Sad but true, although similar systems do exist for some of them. Still, at least it's more of a solution than you'd ever hear Republicans coming up with

Bronwyn Halls's avatar

My solution: It's too late to control guns and people are at risk everywhere, 24/7.

So make *ammunition* insanely expensive and almost impossible to get, and if it's fake in any way the firearm explodes (with consequences).

John S. Way's avatar

That's one way to do things, but it Aldo unintentionally affects folks who do use guns for legitimate purposes such as hunting, and who may not always make a lot of money. Plus exploding firearms could perhaps be a danger to those around and lawsuits are ugly business for everyone involved. I agree that firearms are much too prolific, and that we should find some way to deal with that but there has to be a sensible way.

Elayne McKenna's avatar

So in essence the victims of these violent crimes are put into a prison like environment while the perpetrators can just play with their guns. Because god forbid they may have to give up their weapons of war. Better to turn schools and other public places into prisons for the students, worshippers, shoppers, etc. I THINK NOT! Get these damned guns out of circulation!!!

NRA money and endorsement always trumps morality with these a..holes!

This is once again just too sad. There is no reason to have a military style weapon. They only belong in war, which is horrendous enough. Those poor people 😞.
