Oh, God. I am so utterly disappointed in Plattner, and disgusted that King wants us to give him a pass. You said it brilliantly. Let us find a young, progressive non-rapist to defeat Collins!

So disappointed in Stephen King.

Same. I am completely broken-hearted. He was my idol.

How can any person, much less the father of a daughter like Stephen King, turn away from these accusations and not expect vitriol. Graham Platner is just like every other would be leader who struts their stuff and never gets the fact that your past catches up to you. Who you are is who you were. One way or another we are all held accountable, whether on this side of Creation or the other. Just be a decent and responsible human. For GOD'S sake. It's not rocket science!

I find it encouraging to see Stephen King fans here feeling sad, angry, disappointed, etc. INSTEAD of defending their "fav." God's right: if Congress gets emptied out (as it well fucking SHOULD be) then so be it: there's plenty of imperfect people who aren't rapists.

Another case of what happens when NO ONE LISTENS TO THE WOMEN!! This is not the first/only allegation, this is a pattern of Platner's going back YEARS! F**KING do better people!! F**K THE PATRIARCHY. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Not a Mainer. I thought Platner had a good message & great energy. But credible rape allegation? He needs to drop out.

Meanwhile, we have an adjudicated rapist as president. One party's voters don't find this disqualifying. This timeline sucks.

as a 72-year-old female who’s been abused and experienced rape in many of its lovely forms- from gang to boyfriend to date-anyone,anyone, can I say again anyone, who comes to the defense of a man accused by a woman or person of forcing them to have sex beyond their will my guess is they all know Jeffrey Epstein. Willingly you defend the culture? You are the culture. Sorry Stephen King never really thought much about you so I’m cool.

I’m sorry this happened to you. And it’s so endemic in the culture. We have to not elect people who think this is acceptable behavior.

God, thank you for this. Of course candidates and politicians are imperfect humans, but we must hold them to a higher standard. It makes me angry and sick that Platner's controversial past and credible, abhorrent rape allegation against him are still considered to some people as acceptable qualities for a US senator. I can't stand Collins but can't defend Platner's atrocities because she's gross too.

WTF STEPHEN KING WTF

Hmmmm. Makes me wonder how many times Stephen King might shows up in the Epstein Files.

I was wondering myself if perhaps the man doth protest too much. What is he hiding?

Eric Swalwell dropped out of the race for California Governor because of allegations of sexual assault. Claims that he, of course, denied. He also resigned from Congress. Suck it up Graham Planter and drop out.

I think the dementia fairy may have gotten to S. King! Rape is a non-starter, Platner is done and so is S.King!

There are a couple of really good choices for Maine and neither of them are rapists.

I think the Dems need to set the bar. Democrats as the “We don’t elect rapists” party and Republicans (as it appears to be today) as “We love our rapists and can’t wait to elect them” party. It’s a clear and grounded moral divide. We could run on that. God? What think ye?

Thank you for supporting girls and women, God. Does Stephen King realize that from a woman's standpoint, rape is not "unwanted sex". Rape is a violent, painful, humiliating experience and often affects victims for the rest of their lives. Patriarchy and control of women are baked into our society so much so that Stephen King felt comfortable enough to post in favor of the rapist. THANK YOU FOR CALLING ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER, GOD!

Writers disappoint me. There are so many whose stories I have loved, only for them to turn out to have opinions like this, or like JK Rowling’s.

Oh no, Stephen King - you should know better!
