Because State and local law enforcement get a LOT of money from the Federal government. And if they go in they are out numbered and out gunned. From what I've read the day-to-day funding is by state taxes.. The federal government gives grants for equipment or specialized programs. I honestly think that if there was some form of police presence in these situations, it would significantly decrease the amount of violence. Philadelphia officials have already publicly warned ICE that they will be arrested if they come there and do illegal things like they're doing in Minneapolis. So it can be done.
Also, if the state and local police are more concerned about the federal dollars they receive than innocent people getting murdered in the streets, they should resign. They're in the wrong career. They swear an oath to protect and serve the citizens, not the federal government.
But the politicians that run the city and county police are there. Do you remember a few days ago a police chief had a press conference about ICE stopping his officers. First have we heard anymore from that quarter? Nope, he got muffled. Also would like to point out they didn't have one concern it was happening to their public but when their officers start to get stopped?
