The next four years will be unpredictable, to say the least. But one thing we can control is our ability to laugh. Not because we don’t take things seriously, but because we take our own sanity seriously. Because joy is an act of resistance. And because there is no sweeter revenge than knowing that, no matter how much power they think they have, they will never be able to take our laughter from us.

As always...thanks for the laughs, God. Our future depends on them.

Scott Bernstein's avatar

It's a lot like when you're caring for a sick, elderly parent(s). You need a lot of gallows humor in order to maintain your sanity. Believe me, I know of what I speak......

P J Johnston's avatar

So do I, I lost a lot of sleep and had to take care of both my parents as the same time. Dad wasn't as bad as mom but they were "posers" for a very long time. Many didn't see what was going on (including me) until their doctors stepped in. Then my father would let the "home nurse" in the door and that was it. It truly was 5 years and being the only child I surprised myself that I motivated through it. But I did have some help which I was thankful for.

Scott Bernstein's avatar

Phyllis.... it is not for the faint of heart. We dealt with one with a terminal illness and one with Alzheimer's. My wife and I are of the mindset that our parents cared for us, so we will care for them. It's really fucking hard when you become The Parent. You have to joke your way through it, otherwise, the physical and mental stress will destroy you.

P J Johnston's avatar

Like I said my father had it together better than my mother. When we went into their home after we got them settled in a facility we opened the fridge to find all kinds of things that had been in there way too long as well. And my father saved mail there were bills amongst the pile of mail that were past due!

These angry people should make an appearance at the State of the Union. Just like January 6th but with a different purpose. Loudly, and proudly denouncing him.

Robot Bender's avatar

Democratic legislators need to stand up at the SOTU and shout "You lie! " like they did to President Obama!

Rachel C's avatar

Who says there’ll be a State of the Union?

Some egoists cannot resist a captive audience of clapping sycophants

Punkette's avatar

Elmo will give it! Maybe with his chainsaw 😜

P J Johnston's avatar

And I thought Felon was good I truly like Elmo better can I use this?

Punkette's avatar

Haha Phyllis, of course!

“Elmo” is what the Twitter staff named him when Musk first bought the company. Apparently he hates it. It’s unclear exactly where or when the nickname started. A Reddit post from 2018 notes that “Elmo Sunk” is an anagram for Elon Musk, but it gained little traction at the time.

Jane Martin's avatar

Unfortunately he will do it just to hear himself talk.

Christie sebo's avatar

That's a disturbing point to make and how horrifying that these are the times we in. Nothing is truly set in stone that's for sure.

Khalila RedBird's avatar

As well we should. But that's a long time to wait.

Gisele Dubson's avatar

They won’t be allowed anywhere near.

Christie sebo's avatar

I suppose you're right but a girl can dream.

Richard Hyppa's avatar

Right, this year the SOTU address will be heard under very heavy security. I read that Rump is envious of his co-President's security team, so he'll ramp up to make himself look important.

BJ Zamora's avatar

I would not be surprised if he designs a military type uniform for his Secret Service guardians to wear. He was always envious of European style and ceremony.

Christie sebo's avatar

Or he'll go and get them brown shirts complete with regalia.

Nancy's avatar

Nah, Elon's got that covered with his li'l Junior Brownshirts, all the punks helping him divide up everything. :-/

MAGA wakes up once the agenda hit home, huh? 🤔

No more school lunches or SNAP?

Grandmas Social Security and healthcare is on the chopping block?

That Government Contract that had you working and paying your bills was pulled?

Local services that depended on Federal funding and your community depended on are now shuddered?

You were warned, you laughed, you voted for Trump anyway, so suck it up Snowflakes ❄️

Instead of crying, get off your asses and march on the Capital. Only this time, storm the Whitehouse 🫡

Robot Bender's avatar

Red states: Your Social Security deposit? Your Medicare? Medicaid? Your SNAP and Welfare? Your kid's school lunches? Bye, MAGA folks. No sympathy for them anymore. This time, your stupidity was so bad that it's going to be personally painful to you. Thought it was only going to hurt "those people"? To Trump and Muck, everyone below them are "those people," including you.

Assolini doesn't have enough to do so today he announced he is taking over the Post Office to make it more efficient (my ass). My God in heaven (and here on this platform) Please Please Please SAVE us from this insanity!

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

There go California's (and other state's) mail-in ballots, never to be seen again! :(

Rachel C's avatar

“Assolini” ! Another good one!!👹

Samantha's avatar

Smart move, for a dictator trying to end elections. And, if they can pull it off. If the post office goes...well, I think that they hope it would eliminate 80%- at least. - of voters. I wonder if he will try poll taxes or raise the age requirement, adding an income requirement. Also, it limits communications between people who still have no internet. And I guarantee that the reading of all letters and opening of packages for inspection will be implemented. Next - close the state borders and require passports to travel, say, from Illinois to Michigan.

Nancy's avatar

Most or all of which you just suggested are festeringly unConstitutional, but yeah, I wouldn't put it past him to try all that. X-P

jane's avatar

With Trump's approval rating sliding down this soon after inauguration, the orotests and town hall attendance way up, and some of his supporters are waking up, I have hope. Thanks, God!

Ranger Adams's avatar

I just read a piece written by a former KGB operative that worked on the recruitment of DonOLD Trump in 1987! He knew Putin even back then. This week, Trump has tried to take over the FCC, so he can control every network and news organization. Now he wants the post office to control the mail. Trump was NEVER smart enough to think of all of this himself, but his puppet master, Musky the RAT is! Asd of today, Musk has had his private bodyguard goon squad sworn in as U.S. marshals. NOW HE CAN HAVE ANYONE ARRESTED, JUST LIKE THE GESTAPO OF HITLER! Friends and countrymen, THIS IS JUST THE FIRST MONTH! Isn't it funny that Musk is starting to worry about his safety? He now has as many guards around him as Trump. WHY SHOULD AMERICANS PAY FOR THE SECURITY OF AN UNELECTED BILLIONAIRE WITH NO REAL JOB IN GOVERNMENT???

Samantha's avatar

Ranger, where did you hear about the US Marshal thing? If this is the case, he just made himself Himmler.

Ranger Adams's avatar

This was all in the news yesterday.

P J Johnston's avatar

Great question I truly wonder why he would worry about his safety after all they got rid of the safety for all Americans just a couple of weeks ago.

Morgan Wolaver's avatar

America's support to Ukraine could be settle in 5 minutes by putting Trump & Musk in a locked room with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the last man standing stating the terms. Wonder how much money we would end up giving Ukraine?

KK Stafford's avatar

Lots. trump would crouch dowm in the corner whimpering; muskrat would jump up and down, and Zelenskyy would deck him.

Sally Flynn's avatar

Dear God,

In your infinite wisdom, please explain why the Trump voters chose a convicted criminal, rapist, insurrectionist. And now they're becoming unhappy with him?

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

Trump knows Zelensky created this mess. Trump also knows FDR bombed Tokyo Bay on Dec 7, the Poles engaged in wojna błyskawiczna (Blitzkrieg in Polish?) against that peaceful Austrian artist, and the poor bastard Genghis Kahn was just trying to mind his own business. By the way, how did Trump manage to cut the balls off a highly decorated Green Beret? Anyone see the National Security Advisor yesterday on who started the war after he was on record in very vocal terms blaming Russia?

Robot Bender's avatar

Trump/Muck/Putin may have something on that Green Beret.

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

That was so embarrassing for that guy. It better be something serious like being Jeffrey Dahmer's chef or something!

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

The Crusades are still underway. In the U.S. Good point!

Nancy's avatar

Actually, from everything I've heard and read, 1) Genghis wasn't actually much worse than most people in power back then (don't even get me started on the European Crusaders ... often against other European regions), and 2) a lot of the whole, "Keep 'Em Moving! :D" conquering bit was pretty much make-work to keep the Mongolian people together long enough to be a "real little boy -- er, country!" (and the people of present-day Mongolia adore him like we do George Washington)

Hey, other workplaces have mandatory weekend softball leagues...slightly more effective, with less terror.

I hate how the Mango head is scatter shooting his nefarious plans. I don’t know where to start defending everyone he’s hurt in a month. And you really have to stand on your toes when the courts fight back? Did I read his attack on native birth right is already moved to the Supreme Court?

Here's a draft letter to your Republican senator or congressman:

Dear ( l..I am not personally the boss of you. Neither is the Republican Party nor the President of the United States. Your boss is the constituency that elected you and with all the firings going on, you should be at the top of thr list. You job is to support the US Constitution and to protect the rights of the people who put you there. You have failed miserably. You have succumbed to fear at the cost of your ethics and knowing the difference between right and wrong. I assume you want to have the legacy of serving your country well. No chance of that now. You will be remembered as a coward who bent down to a dictator and didn't do the job you were meant to do. So, before it's too late..step up and do what you were hired to do.

Morgan Wolaver's avatar

Holy moly, is Baron going to be deported to Slovakia?

Rachel C's avatar

We may fervently hope. And his momma too.

Nancy's avatar

Fortunately, they have decided against him in the past, but that's a slim branch to land that eagle on. :-/

At least one of the unqualified SCROTUS (variant of scrotum) Super Six is an "Originalist" who doesn't believe anything past maybe the 10th or 11th Amendment is valid, because it wasn't passed by the Founding Fathers, I guess...you know, the same people who made the Constitution able to be amended in the first place? :-/

The "never in a million years" guy must have been sleeping under a rock the last 10 years.

You think mail delivery is crappy now?!? Wait till the cuts come. They may as well close it down and sell it to Xcrement as a business now. I am sure many of their oligarchs are watering at the mouth waiting for this. (BTW - I am a retired USPS clerk.)

God, I know you are trying to open their eyes, but some will not see even with their eyes open. Thank you, God! Amen! Awomen!

Susan Fanning's avatar

I haven't bought a stamp or sent snail mail in many years. Our postal delivery lady is a sweetheart who is great at her job and is worried that she will get fired. I worry about the people who get prescriptions through the mail. I guess in the eyes of the orange dumpster they are disposable.

Nancy's avatar

Most of the other delivery companies, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc., /work with/ the USPS to deliver things in the out of the way, rural regions (you know, where most of the RED STATE POPULATIONS LIVE?), because they neither have the personnel, nor the vehicles, nor the materiel, nor the desire to pick up those tiny li'l routes. It would be way too expensive for them to pick up the slack; they don't want it.

Oddly enough, if anyone were to champion the government being responsible for the USPS, it'd be those folks.

Jan Frederick's avatar

Right! With the Rural Delivery Act (may not be the official title) 100 or so years ago the PO has been absorbing the cost of mail delivery all over the US, especially in Alaska and Hawaii. Now they use PO money to subsidize private companies’ delivery through contracts. Can’t wait to see how that is affected! They are opening up a huge can of worms here!

We need to fight this joining of US and USSR objectives with all we can muster.

DR Darke's avatar

For those who suffered an American Education under the Republican Party, let me introduce you to the "Good German"—a citizen during the Third Reich who, while they might not be a member of the Nazi Party themselves, certainly voted for them or tacitly supported them by turning a blind eye to their atrocities and lies, and even co-operated with the Nazis in power by pointing out "troublemakers" to be "disappeared".

I Am Not Now, Nor Have I Ever Been, a "Good German"—but a lot of Americans are, apparently.

Nancy's avatar

There's that Cracked.com article:

5 Of Hitler's Worst Ideas You Didn't Know Came From America

One of the reasons we were so isolationist going into WWII (and not just all because of Lindbergh, but I'm just happy he finally had a change of heart in later years) was because a ton of folks here AGREED WITH HITLER. And, apparently, inspired him... X-P

DR Darke's avatar

Quite a lot of what we did over here inspired Hitler, sadly. I was shocked to read that Gen. William T. Sherman's memoirs were bedside reading for him. Sherman's practice of "Total War", going to where the enemy lives and destroying their civilian infrastructure as a way to both limit The South's ability to fight and demoralizing the soldiers, was the genesis of the German *blitzkrieg* during WWII.

It's also what Putin tried to do in The Ukraine during his "Special Military Operation"...with far less success! 🤣

easong's avatar

Let's assume, for sake of argument, that Elon is working for Putin and Xi, and possibly Prince MBS and various Emirates. What would we expect to see unfold? Well (1) Putin has been told America stands with Russia on Ukraine and Trump has cut off arms shipments, the rest of NATO is now vulnerable, (2) Xi promptly launched live ammo naval drills between New Zealand and Australia, indicating he believes America will turn a blind eye to any threats our allies there face from Chinese domination of East Asia or Oceania, which also threatens Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, (3) bin Salman will be free to back Islamist regimes he favors in Africa, Syria, and Palestine, threatening Turkey and Iran, (4) voila! WWIII - very brief and fought in large part by cyberwarfare with the people in target countries shooting each other or dying in pandemics. God save the planet. Or don't, and leave it to a smarter species to start over.

Pamela Perry's avatar

THIS!!! And it's not just the invasion of 2022, the Russians started invading Ukraine in 2014! The FIC (Felon-in-Chief) needs to go to Russia and stay there!
