How is physically removing someone for asking a question of an elected official Constitutional?

Fucking First Amendment rights are being violated! What the fuck!

Unaffiliated, Not Unaware's avatar

You can only say nice things about Dear Leader 47, other wise you are forcibly removed.

This Is the republican/ MAGA version of free speech. And you don’t think we are an authority country yet?

Bill Jones III's avatar

And we pay that (lousy) Representative’s salary! And his massive perks. VOTE them all out!

Nancy's avatar

I think THAT'S what they're worried about most: in the words of the incomparable Mel Brooks (a WWII veteran), playing a state governor role: "Gentlemen! We have to protect our phony-baloney jobs!! =8-0"

Not worrying about being killed. Not worrying about harm coming to their family members. Not worrying about their official place of residence being burned down because of their religion.

The Republicans (and a lot of do-nothing Democrats, it must be said) are mainly worried about losing their cushy jobs that give them power. X-P

Mike Hammer's avatar

I saw video of her being carried out, I'm curious what her question was. Can anyone fill me in as to what her question was?

Richard Spiering's avatar

She probably asked something embarrassing, like "why are you canceling funding for children's cancer research, while throwing a $100 million military birthday parade for a draft-dodging pile of feces?"

Mary Gardner's avatar

And one of Mike Lawler’s handlers says “ he is graciously giving you his time.” WTF Seems that these people are the ones paying his salary. Seems that these repubs have forgotten that they’re supposed to be working for the people, not themselves or the orange toddler! Vote them all out!!!!

Deborah Ann Snelgrove's avatar

He’s giving you his time??? Are you kidding me? It’s more like he owes his constituents his time and ANSWERS!!!

Michele Dukinfield's avatar

Liking seems odd for this.

But admiration? Appreciation for her courage and steadfastness? Absolutely.

At least the thugs who removed her had the grace to be embarrassed by this small brave woman’s quiet refusal to honor an illegal demand.

Nancy's avatar

Much as I hate Meta and everything under its umbrella, I like the concept of lots of different types of response buttons (Like, Love, Care, Laugh, Awed, Angry, Sad). :)

Now if they'd only work beyond Like or Love, that'd be great... X-P

Ralph Hensley's avatar

I have a suspicion that doing away with this type of online response to wrongdoing is what Suckerberg is going to go after with his changes to FB

Her question to Lawler was “what is your red line to finally oppose the lawless administration” and Lawler didn’t answer, so Feiner asked the question again, and that is when she was removed from the town hall.

Derek Smith's avatar

Lawler = lawless. Just saying.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Thank you. My God, what a horrible question to ask (at least according to MAGA).

Carmen Honacker's avatar

People should have stood up in unison, told the congress asshat to f himself and walked out together. Of course, while walking out vowing to vote him out of office!

Marlee Ostrow's avatar

That would have been great!

Carmen Honacker's avatar

That’s what it takes! If people stand together these crooks stand no chance.

Sandy's avatar

Or ask the same question repeatedly. They’d have to carry everyone out. They were embarrassed but not enough to refuse to carry her out. What a shitshow we live in now. What good does resistance do if they ride roughshod over our Constitutional Rights and do as they damn well please? We are already in an oligarchy/autocracy. And they will turn the planet into a wasteland if we don’t act now to remove them. A general strike is needed now and maybe we will have to do what most fallen democracies have done and arm ourselves to fight back. I’m very scared now and fear it’s already too late.

Ralph Hensley's avatar

People just don't think that fast I guess. I'm saddened that Dems Senators and Representatives didn't do that when Al Green was removed. Walking out in unison shows more than some might imagine

Cup of Tea's avatar

I'd have asked the same question she did and hopefully triggered an ‘I'm Spartacus’ moment

HyeUp's avatar

Time for some serious smiting! I think I’d ask him why he hates his constituents so much.

Ralph Hensley's avatar

Or better yet, why Lawler isn't honoring his oath of office

Patrick Stevens's avatar

fwiw, as far as I could see, that wasn't private security in that video, that was NY State Police officers (check the shoulder patches). Where is Gov Hochul or AG James in all of this???

sramsay's avatar

Great question, Patrick! Why are they "following orders"??

Patrick Stevens's avatar

(hopeful reason) - because they were told to "keep the peace" without clear instructions/directions on how to handle peaceful protesters/civil disobedience

the cynical reason is the obvious - cops don't like people disobeying them, regardless of the lawfulness of their directions/orders... :(

i'm hoping that the Gov and/or AG *do* step in and give clarity of direction to their Troopers...

Ralph Hensley's avatar

Write them and demand justice

Christie sebo's avatar

A social worker no less her question couldn't have been any more threatening than wanting a little truth. What I want to know is where did they get these swarms of security people willing ready and able to take the money to enable our first amendment rights to be stripped clean away. For the most part, they would be able to survive our next pandemic since they've now taken up wearing masks. Their faces are the only things hidden with these people. It's so ugly.

Barb's avatar

Since she didn’t get to ask it, we might not find out. But what we all saw should be grounds for a lawsuit. And more. We’re wasting time, folks. If God doesn’t smite him. we must! I’ll spell it out - AMERICAN REVOLUTION, II.

Barb's avatar

We’ll find him. Or better yet, he’ll just die there.

Ralph Hensley's avatar

A Velvet Revolution has to happen.

Barb's avatar

Velvet revolution? Does that mean a bloodless revolution ? If so, in this case it may not suffice.

Personally, I think bloody is warranted (if bloodless doesn’t work). It’s time to save our Democracy, WHATEVER IT TAKES!

Ralph Hensley's avatar

First chance he gets Trump the Moron will invoke Martial Law and go hide out in Mar-a-Lardo

Barb's avatar

They better stock up on ketchup, diapers and golf balls

Linda Laz's avatar

I hope she sues the pants off of those thugs.

Nancy's avatar

As a California citizen, me too! :D

Trust me; if we were a separate nation (don't tempt us; we have the FOURTH largest economy on the planet now ;-D), lawsuits would be our national sport. And not all of them are frivolous...

Bill Jamaca's avatar

I would have asked if he supported her removal and why.

sramsay's avatar

Mike Lawler is a two-faced POS. I state this with confidence because he is my rep. The only reason I was not at that town hall (which you had to sign up for and agree to conditions to attend) was because I had just had a hip replaced. He is a much-reviled figure in the district, I will say that much. He is always blowing smoke and indulging in doublespeak. He loves to present himself as "moderate" and "bipartisan," yet he is MAGA all the way. I hope he gets his hat handed to him when he runs for governor of NY, which is his next career move. (Though I don't wish Elise Stefanik any luck, either--but she is mad at Lawler for basically betraying her, so things might get interesting out there!)

Ralph Hensley's avatar

Can you start a local writing campaign to the Gov & AG for justice in this matter?

sramsay's avatar

Perhaps...there seem to have been some irregularities, too...there were state troopers there as well as local police and private security -- and yet the troopers told the woman when they carried her out that is was a private event. ???How?? However, I was not there personally. I think people with direct knowledge of the circumstances are probably actively pursuing answers and accountability.

Specialknh's avatar

God, you forgot to mention the despicable man in the MAGA hat in the audience who kept chanting “jail her, kill her” … yet he was not removed! Damn, I keep thinking it can’t get any worse, but it does almost every day …

Punkette's avatar

Incredible. The magat threatens a peaceful woman with death and he gets away with it. For shame, cops.

JM Ethridge's avatar

Ooooh, I'd love to have them try to lug my 225-pound self out of a meeting. I am very good at being d34d-weight.

Please let her win the lawsuit she will hopefully file. Give her lots of money and get those MAGats in the poorhouse.

Tracy's avatar

Love your accurate definition of maga!!

Jan Frederick's avatar

If these GOP don't want anyone asking questions they don't like, it is not a town hall. It is a mini-Magat rally. Anyone angry about what was happening should have gotten up and walked out. The purpose of a town hall is to get and give input between elected official and constituents. If they refuse the input, it is not a town hall meeting. Thank you, God! Amen! Awomen! Ramen!
