We have had to stop talking about politics (and at all at points because he just cannot help himself). In the aftermath of Trump’s inaug, all my dad could talk about was how AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE and HUGE this investment of $500 BILLION was.
He left out Trump’s name but said “these guys are so incredibly smart and anyone who is anyone in Silicon Valley is only focused on AI.” He is one of those with an envy boner for the techbros 🤢 even though, as with most things, he contradicts the hell out of himself and is always talking about how dangerous and scary AI is to him.
Everyone who has invested in these tech companies--normal people investing their hard-earned salaries to save for retirement--is being hit by this too. We might not be losing trillions, but its real money to us. Looks like the smite hit the fan that a lot of people are standing in front of.
Likewise! Fortunately, as an private investor, I didn't have a lot invested in any of the affected stocks, and I won't suffer greatly from the losses in my E*trade account. I, too, am afraid to look at my IRA. Yet I am one of the lucky ones: I don't depend on my monthly IRA distribution, as my Social Security just about covers my living expenses. I feel bad for other ordinary people who will be hurt worse.
