Here in Massachusetts we have a tax on millionaires that helps fund transportation and free community college. No millionaires were guillotined for this. And no, they haven’t fled the state despite the fear mongering.

Dear God,

Zohran Mamdani is going to do what Kamala wasn't allowed to do!

I'm so glad you and JC are here! The Army has your back!

Koko in AZ's avatar

With Trump putting 1980s TRICKle-Down-Economics mythos on steriods, I sure hope enough of the country begins to think FDR was right afterall and vote for the likes of Mamdani in '26 and '28.

Zohran represents everything MAGA hates. He is a brown non-Christian person who dares to speak out against their cruel and xenophobic policies. As a minority myself, I stand with him and everything he represents- The promise of Democracy and taking care of "We the People." Not, the ruling class who want to steal from the poor to give to the rich.

People who have had almost everything of value taken from them have nothing to lose. The billionaires SHOULD be terrified.

I can hear them now: “Oh that’s so 18th century”.

🎶do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of angry men, it is the music of a people who will not be slaves again🎶

Always brings tears to my eyes.

IMHO, the DNC is headed for oblivion if it keeps using the same tired, ineffective yet oh so polite playbook. You can't fight evil from the clouds. The Trump Party (heretofore "Republican") is busting at the seams with single digit IQ-ers and Trump plays to them like a maestro leading a philharmonic orchestra. We need to get down, get dirty and play to these flag-waving traitors like the morons that they are. Play longer, play louder and set traps. We Democrats have always prided ourselves in not being the party of the dirty tricksters. Well, it's down to bare knuckle fighting with no holds barred. I say, go find those dirty tricksters and get them on the DNC payroll and in the meantime, could we please swap out our gloves for some brass knuckles?!

Julie-Bud3000's avatar

Of course! Play tough! Be "In yo' face!" and take no prisoners! Shrewd, savvy, fight dirty! Be strong! Growing a spine!

Oooo, baby baskets for newborns? 😱 Behold the scary scary specter 👻 of SOCIALISM!!!

Honestly, compared to Eisenhower's 90% tax on the top tier of income, two percent is like stray coins that fell on the sidewalk. Sit down, millionaires and billionaires. You'll still be obscenely wealthy.

Nancy's avatar

Hell, good ol' Warren Buffet PAID HIS TAXES according to his bracket, honestly, and freely admitted that it hadn't hurt him in any way, shape, or form. :)

Of course, he actually has a modest lifestyle: one house, not 87; one or two cars for his family; regular clothes, food, etc.; and doesn't spend most of the rest of it buying up lawmakers. :)

Karyn Milos's avatar

Exactly. Warren Buffet is one of the wise ones who understand that if and when they attain a certain threshold of financial comfort, it's time to circulate the surplus back into the economy, the community.

At one billion dollars, you control more wealth than twenty thousand average middle class families.

At one hundred billion dollars, you control more wealth than two million average middle class families.

Jeff Bezos controls 237 Billion dollars…

Nobody should control that much wealth…period

Julie-Bud3000's avatar

Hell. We don't just need a minimum wage that can support a person, we need a maximum wage that puts a cap on how rich a rich person can get! The rest can go towards society and, if the wealthy person in question is running a big business, it can go towards that, like pensions, awesome pay, other bennies, high safety standards, etc.!

These gazillionares are so ridiculous! They literally treat money like it's heroin. No matter how much they have, it's never enough. They're literally sick.

HOOKED ON MAMMON-PHETAMINE!

God, I have been listening to Your Wisdom from Google podcasts to Patreon and then here at Substack. Although I'm a UK subscriber I hope enough sane Americans get rid of the Mango Mussolini.

Patty Smith's avatar

So do we, Sally, so do we. It is even worse than you think.

Julie-Bud3000's avatar

We're trying. It's a bit hard without Democratic majorities in House, Senate, etc.

However, we will hopefully remedy that during the midterms. Once we can reclaim Congress, we will finally have the leverage we need and put the brakes on the MAGA machine.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

And with spineless MAGAts afraid of being primaried. Not sent to a strange country.

We have free buses in Chapel Hill. Yes, free! It cuts down on vehicular parking, traffic and is a joy to ride for everyone! Millionaires and billionaires squawking, tough cookies!

Nancy's avatar

That's in North Carolina? :)

How'd they sneak that past the mouth-foamers? ;)

Or did people not protest when they first went in? :-/

JudiLI's avatar

Chapel Hill is the home of UNC and a progressive town. The free buses offered a common sense solution to parking and traffic headaches that clogged the area.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Seems "The People" quite LIKE the idea of "Socialism"!

Christie sebo's avatar

Imagine being such a lunatic not know where your money and power comes from in the first place. Has it not been off of The Backs of the American people? They get their money's worth when they buy off politicians. Now if only our vote had the kind of value our politicians were looking for.

Cynthia Christiansen's avatar

Interesting. The ones with the guillotine are the MAGAts who are selling the poorest people's parts. Projection is a confession. N

Tim's avatar

TBF they use gallows instead of guillotines...like the one they had in front of the Capitol on Jan. 6. They would rather stretch your neck and make you suffer rather than make it quick by chopping off your head. After all they're the party who brought us waterboarding, eh?

Robot Bender's avatar

The billionaires are terrified? Good. They should be.

Mary Busch's avatar

Not all billionaires are greedy whore mongers. ‪@patrioticmillionaires.org on Bluesky is a non-profit organization founded by millionaires and billionaires who advocate for fair pay and a fair tax system. They advocate that billionaires like themselves should pay more taxes. They wrote a book called "Pay the People", putting forth a compelling argument that when workers are paid fairly, everyone, including businesses, benefits. It's economically logical for a billionaire to want people to have enough money so they can afford what they are selling. If the billionaires' excessive greed impoverishes people to such a degree that the people can no longer afford to buy their goods like iPhones, flat screen TVs, etc, then the billionaires will no longer prosper because their market will shrivel up. Setting aside the fact that Ford was a raging anti-semite, that's why Ford paid good wages to his workers who built the Model T so that they could afford the Model T. He created the market and then sustained it.

Julie-Bud3000's avatar

Those folks are okay. Giving back is what a phenomenally wealthy should do.

Nancy's avatar

Yeah, I get regular emails from them. :)

The USA needs many more citizens running for office, no matter what cultural background or religion, that have the courage and intelligence of Mr. Mamdani.
