What made any of them think that the cost of groceries was going to go down?

Has anyone ever seen the cost of anything go down?

Russell Hanson's avatar

hell they believed they would get a check for $5,000 as soon as doge finished saving billions in fraud . fools!

This dickish old cheato wants to spend a gazillion dollars for a parade? That’s where your money ($5,000.)went. Pity the fool ? No. It’s karma.

Here's my question:

What the hell did anyone think the mere PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES could actually DO directly about prices?! They're complicated (unless they aren't, like eggs. If you must kill all your chickens because one of them got the sniffles, that's thousands->millions of eggs that aren't getting to market. Amount of eggs decreases but demand does not: prices increase)!

Joe Biden, bless him, did what he could to encourage Congress (you know, the folks who actually write the bills and pass them? That the President just signs into laws or doesn't?) to write and pass good, useful bills for the economy recovery (from Trump 1.0) so he could sign them into laws.

Y'know, I just thought of a perfect birthday gift for Trump: https://www.amazon.com/Schoolhouse-Rock-America-Various-Artists/dp/B0000033XR

It's designed so kids in elementary school can understand it. That might help him get what the hell his JOB is supposed to be, as well as Congress's job, the Supreme Court's, etc.

Hell, get a copy for everyone: Mike Johnson. Whoever the hell's in charge of the Senate. The two hold-out Justices who don't like due process, etc. Every one of Trump's "cabinet" (I still love the protest sign: "I've seen smarter cabinets in IKEA.").

Remind them of our history, our present, and who the hell they work for: WE THE PEOPLE.

Gas has gone up in my area, as have groceries.

As MAGA folks see the losses that hit them. We might want to extend a hand and say “let’s band together. Let’s work for our country-together”

I like your sentiment and your optimism. However, There are a lot of people who are hurt and angry that all of our predictions have in fact come true. And that we have zero affection and or compassion for those who did not heed our warnings. They are proud of their love for the bully in Chief, and when they find who's ever to blame for making their hero look bad, you will find those kinds of comments in every single conversation they have going forward. It's Obama's fault it's Biden's fault Etc and so on . Maybe some are trying to own the mistake they made, but for the most part, being deprogrammed is not something they're interested in. They just want what they want and are angry that all of a sudden they are the ones being hurt, not those other people. Keep the faith though Lucia. It's only the good-hearted that will come through this with flying colors.

LuciaRegan's avatar

Yes. Especially the gleeful name calling and insults.

But I keep thinking of the adage, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” As former MAGAs turn against Trump and his gang (aka congress), we have an opportunity to form a larger protest movement.

I think Sanders, AOC, Waltz, Buttigieg and other democrats in Congress who go To conservative states and acknowledge the pain and suffering we are are experiencing do more to reinforce democracy and the need for a responsive federal government.

Trump loves money more than his family or our country. Billionaires who don’t or won’t pay taxes to support a country where they achieved their wealth are blinded by their own greed.

Paraphrasing Warren Buffet “if 18 of America’s billionaires paid their fair share of taxes we could pay for healthcare.”

Imagine a democracy where greed doesn’t win!

Mary Busch's avatar

There’s a non profit group called @ patriotic-millionaires on Bluesky who advocate for taxes on the filthy rich. This group comprises of wealthy people who believe they should be taxed more.

Nancy's avatar

Excellent! :D Good for them! :)

Nice to know there's rich people out there who could afford to buy a conscience... :)

Christie sebo's avatar

Boy getting that accomplished would require a great deal of brain rewiring. It's hard to break the habit of getting rich off of the backs of others. I can only suppose. They don't pay millions of dollars to lobbyists to gain favor for our health and well-being that's for damn sure. And there's not a hero among them. I'm sure there are plenty of philanthropists in the world who give until they have nothing themselves. I'd be embarrassed to be rich. I mean like uber rich. Imagine having enough to feed the entire world and you don't do it? What a horrible existence.

Nancy's avatar

And the only way to be remembered, not by having your name on a great theater or library or museum or even stadium, but by the object lesson: "Don't be that person. Learn from their mistakes." :-/

LuciaRegan's avatar

Christie, thank you. It is so hard to not be afraid. It is a daily exercise to dig down for even a pebble of hope. But I like to think that HOPE is Resistance to hate.

Hope can be very strong in the face of bully-fearmongers.

In our core where everything counts, it's not what we give, it's not the amounts. Anything done, if it's done with heart will always give you a very good start. Have a terrific day!

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

I don't understand how so many people can live on hate . It's exhausting .

there are magats out there who will be devastated when Hillary is not charged with a crime, for god's sake. perhaps these magats are afraid of thinking for themselves .....

I have yet to see one person who supposedly regrets voting for the diseased-ridden circus peanut say, "yep 'they' were right. yep, 'they' warned us. yep, everything 'they' said would happen has happened." I have yet to see one of these MAGAt shit stains say, "you know, we probably need to join 'them' in order to stop this living fucking nightmare." Not a one.......

They are going to be het the hardest and still not see what they did in some cases. I agree to the olive branch if it is possible to trust them. They are like the people from Jonesboro that literally drank the koolaid and died. Some of these people are already in dire states. Imagine having a pregnant brain dead family member being kept alive so the baby that was only 9 weeks in utero and is 21 weeks. Imagine the pain and suffering her mom and young son are going thru. The icing on the cake is the baby has nearly zero chance of survival when delivered. There is no bottom to the cruelty of this administration

Nancy's avatar

You'd think that people who were "pro-life" would extend that to even the life of the mother...and admit that sometimes, the biological "system" just doesn't work.

There have been women who wanted to have kids, but who had a miscarriage (talk about an accident of birth; not their fault), or needed a medical abortion to save their lives back in the old days, who then went on to have children successfully.

Well, if you have women DYING left and right (and was the pregnant brain-dead woman killed because they refused to let her have a medical abortion? :-/) because your state government needs to be seen "doing the right thing" for a small clump of nonviable human cells, then there goes more potential children coming into the world...

One of whom could be the next Isaiah, if that's what they're worked up about. :-/

Because of panic in the insurance industry, my daughter was told that they no longer will pay for her monthly injection for her bipolar illness. Only after 2 months plus in a manic state, and professionals arguing in her favor was she able to get the medicine she needed. It was only after the presidential election that these decisions were made by the insurance company. There's your sign.

I just called Rep Jason Smith (jerk from Missouri) to tell him how disappointing he is and his staffer put me on hold for a minute, no explanation, then came back and said he’ll try to get the info to the rep.

Mary Busch's avatar

CW, thanks for calling your rep. It feels futile but it’s not. I write and call my MAGA Missouri rep Burlison on a weekly basis. We must keep up the pressure. “Alone we can do little; together we can do so much.”

Cw's avatar

Thanks Mary, I appreciate the encouragement, especially today. I’ve been begging via calls and postcards for awhile asking specifically for NO votes on this horrible budget reconciliation. I knew my reps wouldn’t do the right thing, but I still had hope.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. FAFO. The government is doing unto you. Enjoy.

I cannot feel sorry for them. Really, I cannot. Every day, when I open my browser to access my email to work, I am bombarded with the latest insanity and depravity of Trump and the Trumpsters in this country. They are STILL lying on TV, Faux "News" and the other even worse outlets. I boycotted TV news entirely. 100% off. No Washington Post either. Every day, I am upset by the next crazy, slimy, raunchy, despicable, reprehensible, disgusting, revolting (this is an incomplete list of adjectives) thing he says or does and/or the way he is wasting our resources. He is bankrupting our country the way he bankrupted the casinos and the sham university. That is what he knows how to do. And the idiots who voted for him, I cannot feel sorry for them one bit because their actions in voting for him have caused me personally to be upset every day. Some days what has happened to the moral fiber of this country makes me want to cry. So let the Trumpsters who voted for him suffer. I have to put up with this crap because of them, their stupidity and their hate. Now they will see what it feels like to be poor and disadvantaged and want some "socialism" to help them out.

Let's not forget in the bill they are taking away judicial power. The last standing guardrail. tRump is purely a smokescreen. It is Stephan Miller and Project 2025 running everything. They want tRump in that position so the lunacy focus is on all of the crazy stuff he says and does. Yet, behind the scenes all of the treason and decision making to create an oligarch is happening.

Scott Bernstein's avatar

"Groceries?" Is that a Spanish word????????

Sooz Hall's avatar

Nah, the word in Spanish that describes 47 is “groseria”.

Nancy's avatar

LOL! :D

From Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grocery_store#History

That's not only just the history of the store concept, but the word itself, pretty much; for more detail:

https://www.etymonline.com/word/grocery

https://www.etymonline.com/word/groceries

So, it's kind of related to Spanish, sorta, the same way both French and Spanish are both Romance languages, as in "descended from the language spoken in Rome: Latin." ;-)

Nancy - my stupid comment was actually a Family Guy reference that I'm sure no one would get. Often times, I just humor myself...... Hope all is well in your tiny corner of the universe.

Lady Tavestock's avatar

English? Why do I have to know that? I'm never going to England!

Lady Tavestock's avatar

I'll see your Family Guy and raise it one Simpsons.

Nancy's avatar

Heh! :D Probably everyone else did on this post of God's, but I didn't... /blush

I grew up in a rural area that only got NBC (during one of their Fred Silverman-ish eras); now that I'm a grown-up, with a place of my own with my husband that we've shared for 35+ years, because of the "NO FREE T.V. FOR YOU!" nonsense between Congress and the cable companies...we have access to one T.V. channel, ABC. X-P

(We used to get Create TV on PBS, which was wonderful, but then their funding got slashed even before the Mango Mussolini, so their broadcast signal boost power was gutted. We miss Create. :-/)

Scott Bernstein's avatar

Welp, even with no tv, you were still able to drop a Seinfeld reference in there!

Nancy's avatar

I did? Neat! :)

Oh, the "No Soup!" Guy! Yeah, even I've heard of him... ;)

Elizabeth Ratkovich's avatar

I’m fighting the urge to throw a shoe at my tv every time one of 47’s new ads comes on lying about lower prices on groceries, lowest gas prices in 40 years, and 451,000 new jobs! Makes me want to puke. 🤮

Nancy's avatar

Waitaminute, hang on; he won the stupid election, and not just because of the stupid Electoral College. What the hell is he still doing ads for? :-/

Elizabeth Ratkovich's avatar

Because all the protests are starting to worry him.

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

did he think people would enjoy being fucked over ?

Elizabeth Ratkovich's avatar

No, he gets off on watching others suffer.

Nancy's avatar

AH! Makes sense... ;-)

Well, if he's that worried, maybe he should just...change his behavior? :D

Elizabeth Ratkovich's avatar

Oh, from your keyboard to God’s ear! 😁

We spoke but NONE OF THEM LISTENED! It's kind of like touching a hot stove. People tell you DON'T Touch the STOVE it will burn your fingers. My feelings are that people are so used to "do overs" but this time it won't happen. "HE'S" in there for 4 years and YOU ALL will HAVE TO DEAL with it. So what if you "own" the libs it does NOTHING for prices of foods or inflation, Sorry!

Nancy's avatar

Feh, they can't even afford to "rent" the libs any more, let alone "own" us. ;)

LuciaRegan's avatar

some billionaires have made plans to give away their billions...Buffett, Gates, Oprah, MacKensie Scott, Melinda French and those who signed the "billionaire pledge." they know that with wealth comes responsibility.

the tech bros don't seem to understand that...at all.

Adrienne's avatar

Ok if I use those last words as lyrics?

God's avatar

which ones? cool!

Adrienne's avatar

The ones who never bought the lie.

The ones who see clearly.

The ones who still give a damn.

We will not go quietly.

We will not forget.

We will fight like hell. And we will win.

They look like lyrics to me 😊

Adrienne's avatar

Just needs one more line:

Adrienne's avatar

The ones who never bought the lies

The ones who see clearly

The ones who still give a damn

We will March on fearlessly

We will not go quietly

We will not forget

We will fight like hell and we will win…yet

I don't understand why Congress is going along with this madness and scorched-earth policy. They are passing off the very people who put them in office. This can't end well. In the end, Congress will be disposable once they pass this ridiculous bill. They need to grow a backbone and impeach the Cheeto-in-chief.
