Oh, I dunno; I'm a wildlife biologist, and yeah, I think I'd say that, /especially/ because I'm supposed to be a trained observer...on the other hand, it's really quite rare for someone to outright die from a rattlesnake, even if it does go full-bore poison (often they don't, especially the experienced adults; if they spend it on something way too big to eat, just because they were freaked out by something 800x or so bigger than they are, they won't have any left for awhile to bring down prey with to eat...it's the inexperienced, silly li'l ones you usually have to watch out for).
Most of the fatal mishaps occur when: a) the person is hiking out in the middle of the wilderness completely alone, without telling anyone where they'll be and when to expect them back; b) the species is particularly cranky and doesn't care; c) the person is extremely ignorant that they're in rattlesnake territory, or d) the person is really, really, REALLY fuckin' stupid, in rattlesnake territory.
