“Destroyed”? Only a Magamaniac could think that winning by 1.5% is destroying their opponent. But then your cult leader always did have problems judging size.

RDW's avatar

Yep. Didn’t see it coming. But x/musk and Murdoch carried the day. Google? FB? WaPo? Amazon? Threads? Truth social? Sinclair insincerely broadcasting. Ditto OAN and Newsmax. Words words words wrote the bard. Someone noted the phrase merges info swords. Anyway people ultimately voted against Iran and to protect Israel — they think. We shall see. I think Kamala would also gave protected Israel but trump perhaps more robustly. At least that’s what many thought. No more funding Iranian funding of terror. We gave them a chance and they blew it. So sad.

I watched the entire thing live. It was a disgrace that drumpf was allowed to speak hateful and foul language. I am not Catholic but felt so embarrassed especially when there were clergy and the Monsignor sitting there. I wish people had the fortitude to stand up and walk out and speak out loud that drumpf is not allowed to speak such hateful language. The Democrats sitting there were miserable and never laughed. There were some boos at the end. But the Monsignor was praying right after the evil drumpf spoke

Kiwiwriter47's avatar

I expected to see a nun walk up with a ruler and go...WHACK! on his knuckles........

alice jena's avatar

Well he never went to parochial school. Neither did I and I know not to be crewd in front or clergy. And I can be very naughty

Libby's avatar

The clergy themselves can be very crude. Remind me, what was that $800m for?

Kiwiwriter47's avatar

Absolutely.

You can make the joke about the two Jewish guys sitting in front of their homes, across the street from the bordello…but not in front of clergy folks.

The joke’s still a hoot, though…

Kiwiwriter47's avatar

Two Jewish guys are sitting in front of their home across the street from the bordello, watching the action.

A taxi drives up, and unloads a Catholic Priest. He looks right, looks left, covers his face, and runs into the bordello.

The two guys say, “Oh, my God! What is this world coming to? A priest going into a bordello! It’s a shame for the neighbors!”

A few minutes later, another taxi comes up, and unloads a Protestant minister. He looks right, looks left, covers his face, and runs into the bordello.

The two guys say, “Oh, my God! What is this world coming to? A priest going into a bordello! It’s a shame for the neighbors!”

A few minutes later, another taxi comes up, and unloads a Jewish rabbi. He looks right, looks left, covers his face, and runs into the bordello.

The two guys say, “Oh, she must be very sick.”

alice jena's avatar

It took me a while to get it. I always wondered what other types of Rabbis there are other than “Jewish “ Rabbis?

joyce book's avatar

I knew I loved you💙

RDW's avatar

Crude not crewd, that is

Dorvek's avatar

Maybe the Catholic clergy ain't so enlightened after all...

joyce book's avatar

Wtfff fk! Religion. Is there still a separation of church and state? Or have I not read the news???…

Republicans. Right deniers. But holier than thou.

They sure love $$$$$$$ from anyone. Anywhere.

❄️Melody Kay Young🦋's avatar

That’s gross. What a debasement. Such a shame.

Shari L Gann-Spearman's avatar

I am Catholic and it was appalling to see the Monsignor sir there and actually look a a demon without calling in the Catholic Exorcist Squad! He had to say a blessing afterwards to keep everyone except for rump and witch from going to hell!

Susana Salgado's avatar

This dinner is why I think about leaving the Catholic church. The hypocrisy of having someone at a Catholic event, someone who has committed adultery numerous times, a sexual abuser of women, a liar, a theft a traitor, who has put himself above God and has rejected the teachings of Christ is an abomination. I am more than disappointed. I am disgusted and dispirited and angry. But what I am more disappointed and angry about, is that the church has not confronted trump about his cruelty towards immigrants, women and everyone one else. But then I realize that the Catholic Church is run by flawed men.

Dorvek's avatar

Wait until you learn of all the atrocities this "Catholic Cult" has partook in across the centuries..

Carolynn Bennett's avatar

Has anyone ever read anything about the Spanish Inquisition?

Linda Blatnik's avatar

Now you’re getting it. It's the catholic church. They let pedophiles do their

business there.

Scream, boo, write about it, AND vote!

Have you noticed how moralistic and preachy

Obama has become?

I got pretty uncomfortable watching a clip on the news where Obama was standing in a room drilling Black men like they were children, blaming them for not voting or something, and threatening them. Then he told them to vote for Kamala.

WTF?! If I we're a Black

man, I would have resented that. As an Obama and Kamala voter and White woman, I ŵas offended. The men were not smiling.

Kelly's avatar

Amen, God!! I'm so happy I left the Catholic Church behind. It makes sense that an institution who shielded child molesters for centuries welcomes Dumpy with open arms. Gaffigan is the best, You bless him. And that Forbes video is full of MAGA trash commenters so be warned, anyone who hasn't watched it yet.

Bridget Collins's avatar

The Al Smith Dinner is an annual charity event which has been around since 1945.

Politicians usually go to mock each other, themselves and presidential nominees are always invited.

McCain and Obama were pretty funny IIRC.

LJ57's avatar

Really spot on, Kelly.

Ann Keller's avatar

Right there with you!

Pamela's avatar

Love me some Jim Gaffigan! What a great job Kamala and “Mary Catherine” did! Classic! 💙

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

Al Smith dinner has plenty of irony with Donny at the helm. Al Smith was an ardent defender of immigrants and fought the rabid anti-Catholic elements of the Klan and extremist evangelicals who loathed him and ran bigot campaigns from their pulpits against him (sound familiar? Trump's base). Smith also fought against the antisemitism of the time. Good book recommendation: "Empire Statesman." Scary parallels to today. We have come so far... Many Trump Catholics have gone dark side. These people hated your grandparents and great grandparents. Rethink or remember your family tree!

PJ Schuster's avatar

I remind my Trumpy family members of that little fact all the time. The signs in store windows that said “No Irish need apply” the Italians referred to as WOPs WithOut Papers, meaning they were

“Illegal” or undocumented immigrants when they first arrived. So many Irish descendants are now in the police forces along the Eastern seaboard states, but their ancestors were hated with the same fear & anger as is now being spewed toward anyone with darker skin. It’s despicable.

Aimée Lafrenière's avatar

My family is deeply, traditionally Catholic (my brother is a lay person but he works for the Diocese, my parents are retired and attend Mass DAILY, etc) - I self-identify as culturally Catholic but my Progressive political beliefs just aren’t welcome in the Church anymore so… anyway…. they are all Republicans and are likely to vote for Trump (no lawn signs this time, but still…). I can’t help thinking that the Christian Nationalists will chuck us all in a camp: me for being a leftist, them for being Catholic, which is “Not Real Christian” enough. They don’t get it at all. Don’t they remember our grandfather (a lifeline Democrat and card-carrying Union member) telling the stories of seeing the KKK burning crosses in the “Little Canada” tenement neighborhood when he was a child?

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

NY Times, Boston Globe etc are asleep at the wheel on such histories and topics.

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

Never too late to switch this one time! For the old guard who beat down and climbed over and around the swells, the bigots, and the haters cloaking themselves as so Godly (the slavery and Jim Crow thing was in line with the Bible right? Just ask Mike Johnson and the Dominion crowd) The old targets they had were Irish and Italian and German etc. no question on the Asians right?! They beat the self-appointed messengers of the God that supposedly told them which pages to pick out of the Bible. They can switch votes just for 2024! The horny draft dodger is not Jesus! Or Cyrus. WTF!

Katie Davis's avatar

Well, the government did prevent Chinese immigrants from entering for several years, but that's another story of bigotry for another time.

Glenn Reynolds's avatar

Indeed! The original illegal alien label. Netflix has a great series Warrior as that Exclusion Act was unfolding. Based on a Bruce Lee series concept. Shows the use of race as an economic tool in domestic politics. Plus some great fight scenes of course! The use of white labor vs. nonwhite labor is a time honored political weapon. The series is not kind to the Irish.

MC's avatar

I find the whole event in poor taste. WTF is so funny about where we are in this country right now? Trump is beyond disgraceful yet he sits at the left hand of this powerful fucking Catholic phony Dolan yucking it up like real pals. I don’t get it. Are we all the butt of the joke? God damnit this is infuriating.

MC's avatar

I was raised Catholic.. 12 years of school and indoctrination yet always not quite comfortable with the rules, mostly due to patriarchal dominance while witnessing hypocrisy. It’s all a fucking rouse. I think of my Grandmother such a devout Catholic, yet excommunicated in 1928 after divorcing an abusive man from an arranged marriage, age 18, no longer permitted to receive the sacrament of Communion, yet never stopped going to Mass but would leave the church at time of communion offering. She died in 1998… for 70 years worth of Sundays she walked home, feeling unworthy. You can bet before she died I saw to it that she received the sacrament of the sick and received communion. No one was more worthy. Yet this Cardinal sits next to this piece of shit and everything is so fucking funny. Yes, I find it fucked up.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Yes, we are the butt of the joke. We all should be aware of the fact that this country isn’t run by We The People, it’s run by the corporate & religious oligarchs. The Catholic Church puts huge amounts of money into political campaigns, it’s just funneled in through a spider web of PACs, foundations, etc. Other faith organizations do it too, AIPAC isn’t the only Jewish organization that finances campaigns. Just look at the amount of money they spent to unseat at least 2 House Representatives & tried to unseat 3-4 others, but failed.

The poor & the middle class from both of the major parties & any other parties & take back the power that we the voters are supposed to have.

The main reason Trump was able to rise to power, is the horrendous wealth gap that has been allowed to occur. Big corporations threaten our elected reps that if they raise taxes on them, then they will move their operations to another country. There should be consequences for that; like okay you move your operations overseas, then we’ll just block you from importing your product to sell here. We are in a repeat of the gilded age with robber barons.

Maura's avatar

Yes, we are all their indentured servants! Citizens United needs to be challenged and overturned after the Supreme court is expanded and has an enforceable code of ethics!

Janice Laz- Romo's avatar

Love, love this. Finally someone had the courage to speak the truth when the monster is in the room 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Aimée Lafrenière's avatar

The classical role of the “jester” in court is that they can get away with saying ANYTHING. No one else can do that and keep their head! The Fool is the wisest one in the room.

Susie's avatar

Shame on the Catholics for allowing this felonious, lying, thieving, and adulterous psychopath to have a place at their table. He needs to be shunned, and not embraced by anyone who calls themselves Christians .

I completely disagree with anyone who thinks this wasn’t nasty enough; this was a master class in delivery! I watched the entire video and what I saw and heard was a takedown of corruption across categories: he whacked business men, politicians, unscrupulous billionaires (I’m finding it harder and harder to identify any other type), and religious people! The most telling thing for me was that throughout most of Jim’s set, the Orange Stain smiled and even laughed at lines that were incredibly damning of him, showing that he had little idea of what was happening, because if he had known, he would have looked burnt Orange. Gaffigan cut him and his cult followers with surgical precision.

Barbara Faigen's avatar

Mark Cuban has endorsed Harris, so that’s one decent billionaire at least. May the others rot in Hades.

BJ Zamora's avatar

I forgot to add that making fun of powerful yet stupid people is an old but wonderful trick. The emperor doesn’t have any clothes (or brains)!

Patris's avatar

OMG (you, apparently) Amen!!!

Debbie Blackwell's avatar

That was…phenomenal. I have seen Jim Gaffigan live twice—he is one of my favorite comedians. He did not disappoint.

Barbara Thompson's avatar

I so appreciate you posting this. As a former Catholic, I know the church does tremendous work behind the scenes, but it’s what they do up front that prevented me from staying a member. They need to occasionally have their noses rubbed in it. And, the orange man should not be noticed by them, much less be lauded. Gaffigan gave a great performance, subtly letting them know supporting a sociopath for president was not acceptable.
