My brother, sister and I are first-gen *Indian-Americans* from the Midwest; both parents are naturalized citizens; and I have two nieces from my sister, whose father also came from India (making them half-first gen and half-second gen).

Angel, I am in NO way dismissive of your culture - my own family is multi cultural, and we celebrate it and support those cultures as often as we can.
I just think that there is (still) so much racial prejudice and division in America that you have to punch it into people's heads that you actually ARE an American. And that being so, you have all the rights and privileges OF an American - you are not an "outsider"
Ethically, culturally you may be an Indian American, and proud of it.
