As a teenager, my son, John-Paul, saw the movie, “Glory.” The movie propelled him to become a student of the 54th. He bought and read every book he could about the regiment and watched the movie often. He became a great fan of Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick. I believed he became quite the expert on the topic. He was deeply inspired by the story.
Regrettably, John-Paul died at the age of 26. In my mind, the story of the 54th regiment is a very important part of the memory of my son.
Amen and amen. Thanks for this powerful inspiration this morning. We all need it desperately today. Keep marching. As your book says in Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” We are all praying that season is soon…. Thanks for this today.
Thank you for that bit of history. Currently I am in a dark place because of this looming precipice. This time it is for all the marbles. In a way we are charging into history ourselves. Are we to be brave and forthright or are the armies of darkness going to take the day. All I can do is vote and talk to G-D. Shalom Dan
Amen. My 2nd great grand uncle; a soldier in the NY 48th Regiment, Co. B, also fought and died with the 54th. His body, along with hundreds of others were near recovered. They fought and died together for the future of this country. We need to do the same!!
If we vote, we win. If you have children and grandchildren you need to vote to teach them the responsibility of participating in their government and the direction of their country. Please go vote, and bring friends and neighbors with you!
I am currently reading Erik Larsen's historical novel The Demon of Unrest. It is about the lead up to the Civil War and the secession of the Southern States (that is as far as I have gotten). The slave holders were talking about assassinating Lincoln before he was installed as the 16th President. The parallels to todays meanness that we hear every day are unbelievable. I don't usually recommend books here, however I think this book is worthy of reading. Love you God!
Several years ago I had the opportunity to attend an event honoring the Tuskegee Airmen. They also fought bravely in a time of segregation. Their faith courage, and good will showed even many decades later.
It was an honor and a pleasure. To meet them and their wives. They were all gracious and delightful, with a sense of hiumor as well as chutzpah! To do what they all did, both were necessary, especially during those very difficult times.

I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your son on these pages.
I am so sorry your son died. ❤️
Ahhhhh Men! Human history shows us both the best and the worst of humanity. Wonderful inspirational story today! I am inspired!
This is one of my favorite movies. I’ve seen it countless times, but even now these clips give me chills. Thanks for sharing this, God!
Fantastic movie.
I love the sound track, too.
Amen! And so much to thank those men for. Now we must make sure the mango Mussolini doesn’t throw it away.

I am embarrassed to say that I have never seen the movie Glory, but I will remedy that immediately.
Even though I have never seen it, reading your post about it still gave me chills.
Thank you, God!
Amen! Working hard to live up the standards set by the 54th

Amen! Working hard every day to save our democracy and I won't stop after November 5 whatever the outcome.
That's one of my favorite movies. Probably in my all time top 5.
