My mom got my first one for me -- looked almost exactly like a big ol' black plastic brick, with an antenna -- and said to use it only for emergencies (it was big enough to knock out a mugger, should it have come to that ;D). Every cell phone I've gotten since then (seeing my friends and hubby with their fragile, glass-faced butt-pocket computers, they've all been flip phones [Star Trek original series communicators, anyone? :D]), I've mostly only ever used it for that.
Though there was one time, years back, when I caught sight of my shadow, walking from my car to the mailbox after work, with a cup of latte in one hand and my cell phone in the other, talking to my broker (MY GOD, WHAT HAVE I DONE WITH MY LIFE!!?)...
