The 4 Republican "justices" on the VA Supreme Court are ages 70, in 50s and early 60s. The 2 Democrats are ages 68 and 69. I don't know if a mechanism exists to retire them all and start all over again, but setting a retirement age of let's say 65 would not accomplish the goal. FL has a 7-R Supreme Court (of 7), and I am assuming it's similar across the South.
Younger than the youngest judge would be… 53? The younger judges on SCOVA are all Republican.
I decided not to campaign actively for Spanberger because of the “centrist” label. I did a yard sign and a button; I didn't knock doors on hot summer days. But, I do think politicians can be pressured, and that's what I am going to do. There is the state legislature to be pressured too.
Have you not noticed that Trump nominated right-leaning Federalist Society judges to the SOTUS that were in their 40’s or 53 in Kavanaugh’s case? Blow them all out in Virginia and replace them with lefties in their mid-40’s. If the youngest guy is 53, that’s the age.
Nobody was suggesting 65. It’s an extreme measure to counter the extreme measures of the right.
