Having Gavin Newsom on as the first guest is <chef's kiss>

Dorvek's avatar

Newsom was on Colbert last night, not Kimmel!

Nancy's avatar

Hang on; didn't Jimmy have on a Gavin Newsom lookalike actor dude? ;)

Dorvek's avatar

No idea, I don't watch Kimmel usually...

Robot Bender's avatar

And they call the Left "snowflakes." 😆 🤣 😂

Nancy's avatar

Enough snow makes glaciers... ;)

And replenishes ground water aquifers. :-/

(Though snowflakes on their own are brittle and fragile...)

Jeez. The constant victim hood must be exhausting. You’d think Jimmy Kimmel was some radical leftist bomb thrower. And every conservative is a victim and a martyr. I hope other institutions learn from this. Two thirds of this country didn’t vote for this. Stand on the right side.

I don’t watch much TV, so could someone please make a list of advertisers on Sinclair stations so that we have a list of businesses to boycott? Thanks in advance!

I made a post asking Substack readers to respond with advertisers. Please respond, and thank you! 😊

Okay, but...

Don't be in too much of a hurry to get back on Disney+, folks. I want us to be the thorn in Iger's side. 😈

As Mrs Betty Bowers posted yesterday:

DISNEY: "OK, we are putting Jimmy Kimmel back on the air. You can resubscribe now."

ME: "I unsubscribed because you immorally bowed to fascism. I'm not going to resubscribe because you immorally bowed to finances."

Mandy (CastielsHamster)'s avatar

Ima have to remember that. Brava, Betty!

JustTanNotOrange's avatar

Yes, but support Jimmy Kimmel and his crew by watching on his YouTube channel

Barbara Baldwin's avatar

I had the same exact thought. We are so attached to our creature comforts in this country that I expect many have already resubscribed.

Mandy (CastielsHamster)'s avatar

Oh God I hope not. It's not teaching them anything, except that if they give us what we want they can go back to abusive and manipulative tactics.

Nancy's avatar

On the other hand, it's also teaching them that if they pull this kind of crap again, we'll punish them again. ;)

Mandy (CastielsHamster)'s avatar

Yeah that's fair. 😏

How much money could they stand to lose before they finally say, “Please! I got a wife and kids to feed!”

Seems like the name of the game.

Over on Patreon, there's David Gerrold (the dude who wrote the original series Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles" [and I think the animated series' sequel, "More Tribbles, More Troubles"], among tons of other great science fiction), who just wrote "Thinking About Civil Disobedience." It's a good 'un, and I hope not behind a Patreon paywall of any sort:

Bless him and thank you for sharing this.

Sinclair is blocking the feed - something like 47 markets won’t get it. Clearly trying to tank the ratings.

Carol Bradstreet's avatar

I've found the local Sinclair-owned station and have suggested on social media that we boycott them, AND their advertisers. I still have some homework to do on who advertises with them. Hit 'em where it really hurts-- their pocketbook! We can't stop now.

Bronwyn Halls's avatar

When a government gets beyond tolerable the people go on strike.

But a strike hurts everyone, casts a horrible pall on the world.

Zero in on the real enemy. Yes; make and publish lists of organisations and companies to boycott.

Rather than not go to work, choose not to pay those mongrels another cent.

Instead, pay the ones who really do the right thing.

mark rubin's avatar

Well you know very well what can be done with statistics. I have no doubt the per capita station ratings will be great tonight, although the gross numbers will be lower thanks to Sinclair.

Barbara Baldwin's avatar

I worked in the statistics department at the IMF. I understand best practice in compiling data. I’m quite sure that’s not being practiced at the BLS right now…at least for any statistics we will be allowed to see. 😳

JustTanNotOrange's avatar

Please y’all keep up the pressure by watching on Jimmy Kimmel’s YouTube channel. And remember to like and subscribe

Denise Palesch's avatar

(Warning: Muttering something rude about Sinclair and Nexstar.)

Keep up the boycott on Disney so they will be induced to add their weight requiring broadcasting in all markets.

CaptJim's avatar

Don't jump back on the Disney scam. They will accept you back just for a quick boost. Wait to see what happens tomorrow.

Chris Winter's avatar

This warms the cockles of my heart. Go Jimmy!

BE Anderson's avatar

It will be pretty funny if now the right cancels their Disney + subscriptions.

Nancy's avatar

Well, there was that post and meme that suggested boycotting them for putting that Commie pinko traitor scum back on the air again... ;-)

If you don't stand up to a bully, you become a punching bag for everyone because no one respects you then.

Fox News reports that 92% of Kimmel's jokes target Republicans (MAGA). Boo hoo! Fox News' entire network and all shows 100% target Democrats and liberals. 24/7 they spew hate, misinformation, and lies.

Mike Morilak's avatar

That's because they are woefully incapable of spewing humor.

Nancy's avatar

And if they weren't capable of providing us with so. Much. Material...

There wouldn't be that much to laugh about. ;)

To paraphrase HCR (my she-ro!) this was a clear failure to recognize that the will of the voters and the will of the consumers are not necessarily the same thing - and there are hella more consumers than voters in this country (sad, but true). And as the good professor also said, clearly MAGA and Donald Trump think that Trump is a lot more popular than he actually is.

Fuck Disney. Clearly they never watched "Andor" despite it making them a metric shit ton of money.

Gail Blackmer's avatar

Some local TV affiliates are still not going to air the show. How do we get to them? Sinclair and Nexstar! 😡

Carol Bradstreet's avatar

Boycott the stations, continue boycotting their "owners" and boycott their advertisers. We can't stop now.

Barbara Balch's avatar

Always appreciate what you do.

Amanda Gulla's avatar

Except if you live in a place where your ABC affiliate is owned by Sinclair or Nextstar you are still out of luck. We will be relegated to watching the following day on YouTube. Fascists gonna fascist and we still have to resist.

Carol Bradstreet's avatar

Boycott stations who do this, all things Sinclair, and also boycott their advertisers. Let the advertisers know why you are including them in the boycott. When you hurt their bottom dollar, they'll respond.

JustTanNotOrange's avatar

I always watch him on YouTube. They upload a little later the same night, so if you’re up late you don’t have to wait until tomorrow. While you’re waiting, I recommend watching his monologue titled “Jimmy’s back” from a few weeks ago, when he returned after his summer break.

The ship may be turning slowly, but at least tonight it’s moving in the right direction, thanks to good people like you, and collective action!
