BREAKING NEWS: Spraytan Spunkmuppet discovers that bringing down grocery prices is "hard," but bringing down planes is a piece of cake.

I'm supposed to fly to Portland, OR for my brother's wedding in July and now I'm wondering if we shouldn't just drive instead even though it'd take two days each way.

Punkette's avatar

Agree! I need to fly cross-country in April but am now thinking of taking Amtrak (3 days each way). But will Amtrak still exist then? Oy vey

Sally Burton's avatar

If you can afford the fuel and the added time, for Gods sake drive

DR Darke's avatar

Drive, and use the time to build up your travel points.

Good idea at least the roads are still saver than planes are now!

I keep waiting for them to refuse to allocate any funding for whatever Federal department covers infrastructure (roads, train tracks, etc.) to pay for Elon's kid's nose job, or whatever "economic crisis" the unfortunate billionaires are going through this week. X-P

(Love the meme that has a picture of crying babies and in between them, probably from The Onion: "Elon vows to keep fathering children until one of them likes him." X-D)

P J Johnston's avatar

By the time they get done they will have no departments to "govern" and then they will say to themselves "Did we go too far?" or when several departments don't work like they're supposed to they will say "what did we do wrong?" NAH they won't even be thinking about that, too busy golfing and taking Ketamine!

I suspect the next big crash is coming soon...the economy or stock market. Looks like Magats are getting a "crash course" in what they voted for! Thank you, God! Amen! Awomen!

P J Johnston's avatar

Precisely! They sure are, it's like they are saying "I didn't think he would do things like take my "new" job away from me or say that it's too hard to bring down the food prices, but now he's hamstringing the CDC and firing the people that were working on a vaccine for bird flu" Great JOB GUYS ~ Making America Sicker once Again!

I’m really fucking scared. I’m in Chicago and I have a daughter going to school on the east coast. My step son lives on the west coast. Our family flies a lot!! I have a trip planned in a few weeks and I’m freaking out.

I fear the government is going to handle plane crashes the same way it handles gun violence. They won’t do a fucking thing. I hate our country so much right now.

Linda Morland's avatar

I still love the country but hate those responsible for this awful shit storm.

And I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats coming to take him away haha ho ho hehe. The international criminal court should be having something to say about this whole nasty thing.

Nancy's avatar

Amen! Awomen! Aramen! A-etc.! :D

It's times like these that I think a one-world government, like in so many actually hopeful sci-fi series, wouldn't be a bad idea...then I think, "Oh, but dear God, what if someone like Trump gets in THAT position...?! :-/"

Keep up the good work and good word. We need some levity around here.

Well, God and Co., I think you hit it on the head. The deaths of others, in the minds of despots and superstitious folk everywhere, can often be seen by these folk as a necessary thing that keeps themselves alive. Busy the reaper with the created deaths of the unwashed - women, children, the poor, everyone who is not them - and death will not come for you. Never worked before, but people will believe silly things, such as 'Republicans care about the economy,' 'department of government efficiency,' 'it's to protect the women and children' and the infamous 'I promise not to cum in your mouth.'

Ranger Adams's avatar

With all of these plane crashes, can we get Musk and Trump to FLY MORE OFTEN???

Robot Bender's avatar

H/T to God for the Hitchhiker's Guide and Airplane! gifs! 'And don't call me Shirley!'

My first career was in airline ground operations (20+ years) and even I'm getting a bit concerned. 🤔 😟 Our next flights are in October, assuming airlines and ATC still exist. Maybe we'll just drive all day instead.

I agree with Jan Frederick. I'm not sure we'll have an economy by October, either. We're retired and honestly, I don't know what we can do to protect ourselves. I'm certain that tens of millions are in the same boat.

DR Darke's avatar

That seems like a really fast reaction to Trump's firing of air safety employees, if I'm honest.

But yeah, it's like airlines no longer even GIVE a shit about flying safely.

If I can afford it, I go a convention in Tampa and do some shooting (with a camera!) every summer—I was planning to drive down before this because I really hate being on the airlines' schedule and all the limitations, but this is strengthens my resolve not to fly under any circumstances.

Air traffic control was already understaffed. It needed to be strengthened, not cut, and it doesn’t take very many atc stations with too few staff to begin seeing major incidents.

Will the FAA be disbanded because of all the DEI plane crashes? Somebody has to be blamed after all.

To the woman holding her “sorry” sign: fuck off & shove that sign where the sun don’t shine.

WE TOLD YOU. WE WARNED YOU. But, nooooooo, you didn’t listen. It’s too late for sorry. I don’t want to hear it because I’m too busy trying to save my country. Go buy some of those eggs that you voted for.

The Chicks have a great song that’s my theme for people like you: Not Ready to Make Nice.

Nancy's avatar

Wasn't that on that DOUBLE PLATINUM cross-over album of theirs (/Taking the Long Way/; awesome official video for that song, too), where they went from "oh, just Country stuff" to mainstream? After the lead singer had gotten death and worse threats (to her, her family, her bandmates, etc.) all over the place from "real 'Mur'kins!" because she said, regarding Bush and the war in Iraq when it happened:

"He makes me ashamed to be a Texan."

That was it. That was all. And just about immediately afterwards, due to the Internet, primarily (though no doubt they got a lot of hate snail mail and phone calls), they had to have security escorts from their hotel room to the transport to the airport, from the airport to the concert venue, security backstage, and another escort to the next airport, just to finish their contractually obligated concert run. The minute they were free of that, they went back home (and probably cancelled various things, changed their phone numbers, etc.) and into the studio and produced that thing that melted the airwaves. >:-D

I've got it; I should find it again and play it again. It may be over 20 years old, but it still packs a punch. ;-) I'd also recommend /Gaslighter/ for that one song ("March, March"); most of the rest are break-up songs and just kind of meh. /shrug

Also: Natalie made the comment at a concert in London (I think, but it was at a concert in another country) because they had not seen the massive protests against in war in Iraq going on in Great Britain and Europe. Many people of GB did not agree with their PM, Tony Blair, dragging them into a war. News in the U.S. was not covering it or it was buried. When The Chicks saw the protests, they were, as Natalie said in a later interview, shocked. Like all the rest of the U.S., we were distracted because we were all still grieving and recovering from 9/11.

Considering all the lies uncovered years later perpetuated by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld about “WMD” held by Saddam Hussein was a very bitter pill, especially with all the lives lost.

RLT's avatar

Yes! And not long after, The Chicks posed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. It’s relevant even today as a symbol of what society plasters onto women & our bodies if we make “good trouble, necessary trouble”.

I’ll post the cover photo in a note.

In fairness, the Delta plane in Toronto flipped on its own. Not due to atc according to press. Weird freak accident.

That said, the atc/FAA cuts are dangerous and irresponsible.

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

I won't be flying anytime soon !

ErinPH's avatar

Oy. I just booked a flight in April to visit my daughter in TX...and I will be leaving for a long planned trip to Venice 2 days after I return from TX. I might never come back from Italy assuming all goes well.

Nancy's avatar

I'd trust European airports and airlines over ours these days. :-/

Rich M's avatar

How the fuck am I supposed to get to Europe if I can't trust the planes?
