I have a triathlon scheduled there for next summer, but I emailed the race director and told him I want my money transferred to an event outside of Waukesha county. Not spending any money there!
I live in a red county in southern Illinois, near St. Louis. Our county board chairman said the same thing on Facebook. He refuses to apologize or admit he did anything wrong, let alone resign.

I saw another nurse post how many of us still have photos in our camera rolls from that time. So I went down that memory lane. I wish I had taken more photos as proof. My first day working covid after our state shut down, unbeknownst to me, the vice president of the hospital system told me wearing an N95 would scare the public and was uncalled for. I advocated for myself knowing full well the amount of people who would be coming to get results etc. I truly thought I would be fired that day. ..I mean who speaks against the higher ups.
When I traveled to Detroit to help out at one of our hardest hit hospitals. I was absolutely not prepared for what I walked into. Not even 5 minutes on the floor I'm calling a code to have my patient intubated as they are started to cough up foam preventing them from breathing. I had a gown, N95 mask with a surgical one over it (you know because single use items had to be reused) and glasses. The doctor was giving me directions of medication to administer from the doorway. Wearing an astronaut looking helmet respiratory. Only once the patient was entering into sedation did they enter in their moon suits. While I had on what I mentioned previously. About a month later it was protocol for incubation to be done wearing the space suits only.
Patients died alone, where maxed out on vent settings, as well as wide awake watching everything around them on regular floors turned into ICU's with tubes down their throats breathing for them. The fear I witnessed in so many eyes still stays with me. Grouped with a sleep study nurse and an Army flight medic we did what we could to make patients comfortable. At one point introducing ourselves to each other. The sleep study nurse was on her last day and said if she knew it was like this she wouldn't have come. While the flight medic said this was the closest thing she has ever witnessed to wartime causalities on US soil.
Some patients where taken off of ventilators knowing they weren't going to make it so others might have a chance. I remember my patient that was a grandma for two days was talking about going home, how much she missed her family, then she started to crash. I let her know she was heading to the next floor up for an ICU bed that had opened and would be okay. When I came back the next day she was back in her room. The ventilator didn't work for her, so she was taken off of it, so someone else could use it. Slowly like a fish out of water she laid there gulping for air, alone in a room with the door shut. I checked on her as often as time allowed. Holding her hand. Letting her know she wasn't alone. Praying her family would know that as well. She came from a large one. It took two days for her to pass on from this earth. Even her finally moments she managed to turn her head towards my voice letting her know someone was there with her holding her hand. That she was loved and appreciated for everything she gave to her family in this lifetime.
I know this is long but I share because people don't know the stories of what happened. They believe the spouting's of a mad man on television speaking things he knows nothing about. I share because people want to know the details. I still believe people should have been able to able to walk the halls since they didn't believe the truth of what was transpiring. I hope more and more medical professionals share their stories, and photos from that time. I took the ones I did to document a part of history I knew would never be believed. I don't regret it at all.
