W00T!! GRATS TO PHILLY! ✌️

Tbf, the results are unofficial.. they still need to count the mail-in ballots.

Nancy's avatar

Yeah, but don't most mail-in voters vote Democrat...? ;)

Tracy L Cooper's avatar

Twas a very good night when Democrats win & Republicans cry.

JayDeeGee47's avatar

Mainers voted down Republican efforts to require Voter ID's and stop mail-in voting. This would have kept those unable to get to their polling sites - our many elderly, the disabled, and voters who live in deeply rural communities here, from having their voices heard. Mainers came through!

Nancy's avatar

I still don't understand so much hatred against mail-in ballots, unless...ah! They're PHYSICAL, rather than an electronic voting machine that's really easy to hack! Okay, never mind, now I get it...though killing mail-in ballots would also kill the votes of the folks like the ones in Maine, a lot of whom live in RED states... X-P

Good job, Mainers! :D

I know it's hard to find reasons to smile, let alone laugh, these days. But I love this quote from last night's post by Dr. Heather Cox Richardson.

"Tonight, legal scholar John Pfaff wrote: “Every race. It’s basically been every race. Governors. Mayors. Long-held [Republican] dog-catchers. School boards. Water boards. Flipped a dungeon master in a rural Iowa D&D club. State senators. State reps. A janitor in Duluth. State justices. Three [Republican] Uber drivers. Just everything.”"

Kaiannanthi's avatar

Gotta have term limits on those Dungeon Masters, for sure!! 😂

Maria K.'s avatar

Right? Who knows what kind of shenanigans they might get up to - drunk with power like that. And don't even start me on those Uber drivers! ;-)

This is the most hope I've felt since last November. It will still be a long year, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel... and now I'm not worried it is a train. 🌊

LJ57's avatar

One year ago I thought I might never be able to stop crying. Ugly crying. It took over two weeks to get to sniffles. NOW, with this year’s election results, I can’t stop smiling.

TrashPandaParty's avatar

You and me both. Dems have to stay focused though. We have to get people excited, get people involved, and do the work to feel this good in a year. We can flip Congress. My state has been gerrymandered but Kamala took over 48% of the vote here. We used to be purple. We just need to get people to vote. I have faith in us though.

I breathed a sigh of relief. I now know that the American people will prevail. Although I live in a blue state, I'm deep in the Maga section of it. We will never stop fighting for our rights. I am especially happy to Zohran and the women elected. Billionaires don't have our best interests at heart.

Dear God - I'm a 68 year old African American Veteran who served for 8 years and am on a fixed income. While I don't have lots of $$$$, I believe it's important to fund those to tell the truth! I just joined you. Thank you for truth telling and providing many laughs!!!!

Thank you for your continuing service, Kim!

I too am a senior on a small fixed income. I must be very careful about who I can actually pay to follow: there are so many great voices here on Substack, the choice is tough.

God was my first paid subscription, and I'm happy for that choice every day! Thanks, God!

Nancy's avatar

My first paid, too! :D

God is great! :)

More blessed news! 🌟 Detroit has elected Mary Sheffield, a Black woman, as mayor, the first woman to be the city's mayor. She's a Democrat, of course, as is the current mayor.

Way to go Motor City!! She's gonna kick ass and take names!

Yessss! 🥊 Go get ‘em, Sister Mary!

Re DC & Puerto Rico statehood. DC wants it. Puerto Rico is divided. So maybe let them have a say in it.

TrashPandaParty's avatar

I don't think God is saying we are going to force them. Just give them the opportunity to be states, if they so desire.

Robot Bender's avatar

Offer statehood to Guam and any other US territory. Let them decide.

Kaiannanthi's avatar

Abso-freaking-lutely!! Nobody considers Guam in these things, just PR and DC. Do we still own the Northern Marianas Islands too? Y'know, where we have those sweatshops where Walmart could disingenuously claim everything was "Made in the USA" back in the 90's?

TrashPandaParty's avatar

American Samoa too. Where RFK Jr single handedly murdered over 80 people, mostly children, with his anti-vaccine bs.

What a novel idea!🤔

Nov 7Edited

DC was set aside deliberately to not be a part of any state any more, and -- hm! Sounds like the definition of a state to me...at any rate, one idea was to just limit the definition of DC's size to just the Federal buildings; the White House would be the only residence, and the other 700,000+ people would be considered citizens of Maryland and Virginia (oh, wait; Virginia wanted their land back in the 1800s, so only Maryland's on the hook for the rest of it, and would have those extra citizens back).

Another idea was to look at "10 miles square" rather than "10 square miles" or whatever it was; one definition said it was 100 miles around, total (which it was while Virginia's land was still a part of it), whereas the other way would make it add up to only 10 miles around, or something. That would cover all the Fed. buildings, yes? :)

I have seen last night’s Election results. I call that a good old fashion butt kicking behind the wood shed. The 🍊🤡and his goons are going ape shit having a meltdown. I’m like: oh boo hoo cry me a river. What a bunch of crybabies!

The party of "You lost, get over it" never fails to be hypocritical.

Brilliant results last night. Well fone New York for rejecting thugs and fascism. The first Muslim mayor is a real milestone but don't make the mistake of thinking that can be translated countrywide because out there with the rednecks and the banjo players it won't play the same. We are lucky to have Sir Sadiq Khan in London now on his third consecutive term.

They always try to portray him as an extreme islamist whereas in fact he's one of the most inclusive politicians in the country and regularly supports things such as gay pride. The knives have been out for him for years and he beats them every time as he will again.

It's wonderful to see the MAGA crowd losing their shit over this. How dare he promise to feed children and make rent affordable what on absolute asshole. The reaction to these policies by those in power tells you all you need to know.

Punkette's avatar

Virginia elected its first Muslim and first Asian American woman, Ghazala Hashmi, as Lieutenant Governor!!! God is good!

Jocelyn B's avatar

Whoa, Steve! Please stop that, with the "rednecks and banjo players"! Please start reading Jess Piper's "The View from Rural Missouri" here on Substack. She has quite a lot to say about the "flyover" states, what we are missing by ignoring or dissing them, and how they are suffering under orange-ism. Also, the banjo is an excellent instrument, just like the accordion (however much fun it is to tease my friends who play them) and bagpipes!

JP Connolly's avatar

re rednecks and banjo players. Hmm. Generalizing doesn't work in any context, too broad to be useful, but dissing people for the color of their necks and their instrument of choice? No, I don't see that. I am relieved to see that the inclusive attitude amongst democrats seems to have taken hold. Most of us have grown tired of the constant divisiveness, particularly from the GOP, but also from the Dem leadership so called, who want it middle of the road for ever. And no the leadership grumps, AOC and Mamdani aren't the future of the country. No point in that kind of my way or the highway, and if we lose the hell with it, it's somebody else's fault..

So the Fatuous Fatsby had a bad night, just a few days after his extravagantly self- indulgent bash to celebrate 45 million people losing their food assistance. Good.

I'm so glad I watched election results with God last night. It's been such a lousy year in Los Angeles. I figured if it was going to be bad news, I'd rather hear it laughing with God than MSM. And hot damn, it was a party!

Exploding heads!

Oh, dear God!

Isn’t that just like racists to expect others to clean up their mess?
