I’m too old to do much, but I can boycott. My granddaughter is here for the first time from Australia. I was going to take her on a trip to DisneyWorld for four days and planned to make all the reservations this weekend. Now I’m not.

Dot Chick's avatar

Yes I'm in that same boat too, Peggy. I boycott and go to protests when I am physically able. I donate what I can and proudly wear my protest pins and car bumper stickers and flags. It's not much but I am doing whatever I can at this stage.

Robin's avatar

Boycott sister!!! Hit 'em where it hurts most $$$$$

Dot Chick's avatar

Yes, I'm in that boat to. I try to go to protests when I am physically able and boycott.

Kim Bart's avatar

I'm so sorry, that's so sad. I used to love going to Disney! I hope there is another theme park you can visit!

Peggy McAloon's avatar

There are many in this country, and she’d live them all!

Peggy McAloon's avatar

Love, not live!! Sorry!

As far as Orlando goes, there's Universal Studios, which is way bigger than ours here in southern California (the pictures of folks protesting at Disney's front gate were doing so in Burbank...Hollywood gets all the credit; Burbank does all the work ;-D), but ours is still a working studio as well, and I think the only thing the one in Florida does is actually be a theme park. :)

I'm sure there are other sorts in Orlando as well; Disneyland here in California is in a county hosting lots of other parks. :)

The fact that they have Weaponized the FCC should stop everybody in their tracks. This is the largest assault on Free Speech on public television we've ever seen in our history. Thank God for the people who are sounding the alarm. Canceling these networks who cow tow to this regime is the only thing they will understand. It's time to stop paying companies who show compliance to Trump.

Matt McClenahen's avatar

My great fear is that Google will become part of the MAGA Media Gleichschaltung. As long as YouTube is free, anti-regime speech can still flourish.

Cat's avatar

It already is. Use DuckDuckGo.

geraldine Schiavone's avatar

3years now I’ve been using. Duck Duck Go

Thom Hartmann did a show on why u should use this search engine ,it’s great ,stops a lot internet trackers.

Susan's avatar

I was also going to recommend DuckDuckGo as a replacement search engine. They are great...AND they don't track and record all your searches!

Robin's avatar

How about free speech can flourish because of Substack, Bluesky, Discord, etc...

HMarquee's avatar

I have been thinking the exact same thing.

Your fear will be realized because capitalists gonna capitalize. Full stop.

"Sinclair Broadcasting announced they will not air him again unless he apologizes to Charlie Kirk’s family and makes a “substantial donation” *to them* and Turning Point USA."

A "donation" to the family?? Charlie Kirk was worth $12 MILLION DOLLARS at the time of his death. What do they need a "donation" for? This is pure, unadulterated extortion. So glad he told Sinclair and ABC to pound sand.

Carla Jo's avatar

Erika Kirk has a Go Fund Me, as of two days ago, it had brought in $6M.

Rachel C's avatar

These people are not capable of shame. 👹

Nancy's avatar

Maybe she's trying to buy some? :-/

Rhombus Ticks's avatar

FUCK SINCLAIR NATIONALIZE THEM AND PROSECUTE THE OWNERS

C Rogers's avatar

So how many of the corporate leaders at Disney, ABC, CBS, Paramount, Columbia University, law firms that have capitulated, etc., are actually named in the Epstein files. Perhaps that explains the rush to bended knee...

Jayne Spence's avatar

I think it’s more a financial reason-troubled business etc. that’s why Trump goes after them, they have a weak spot he can leverage.

Nancy's avatar

That might be giving Sponge Brain-Full Pants too much credit... :-/

Maria K.'s avatar

Not a penny, Jimmy! Or better yet - make a donation to ACLU and the independent attorney groups providing legal help to the various victims of this regime!

JP Connolly's avatar

This is mob behavior, absolutely not a penny, and Don't apologize. You didn't say anything that requires an apology.

Maria K.'s avatar

Exactly! Not one word!

I canceled my Disney+ and HULU subscription yesterday! I also canceled my scheduled trip to take my grandson to Disney during spring break. PHUCK FASCISM and FUCK DISNEY! I now subscribe to PBS Childrens Channel. Thank you God for all you do. You and Jeff Tiedrich are the first reads of every morning!

Punkette's avatar

💪🏽💙 Good for you, sister!

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

Lynn, I want to cancel my Hulu/Disney+, too. What will you be using instead? I'm trying to figure out a good replacement so that I can get the live stuff I like, plus MSNBC, and a lot of the other channels that I enjoy. Have you found a good replacement that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?? I'm retired, disabled, and my life involves a LOT of TV, unfortunately.

geraldine Schiavone's avatar

Me too Read God& JeffT in the morning 👍🏻😍

I can’t cancel my Disney+/Hulu subscription because I’m not subscribed. I’ve been shedding other streaming services to save up to sub to Disney so I can finally watch Andor, but then - Kimmel. Well, rats.

To others who also haven’t seen Andor, or maybe all those who have, let me say that I’m glad to have signed up for the training in Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal’s “Resistance Lab”. She’s not afraid to call the Trump regime fascist, and the workshops are very encouraging. She doesn’t say, “join this group or that group” —- just join *some* group, be active, stay active, and try to get someone you know to be a little more active. Also doesn’t say, “fight this outrage and ignore all those other outrages”, but rather, whichever front you’re fighting on, you’re chipping away at the dictatorship. And speaking of “chipping away”, there’s no fund appeal in these workshops, no exhortation to “chip in” to her re-election campaign, even though they are put on by her re-election campaign. (Later you’ll get a solicitation, but that’s only fair.) She’s putting on one each month; next one is October 19. I hope it’s okay for me to point to the registration page: https://www.pramilaforcongress.com/the-resistance-lab .

Drat! :( Just as well that Doctor Who has already had its run with Disney; now I won't have to try to sign up with them to get my "fix," though I will have to wait until the Doctor can find a new home...sigh; maybe the BBC won't be so worried any more with a sane, caring PM in charge now. :-/

Thanks for sharing the link; even though she's not one of my state's Reps., it still sounds like a good plan, and I signed up for it. :)

Cat's avatar

It just shows how scared they are. Canceling comedians. What a bunch of whiny little crybabies.

BillyBobPA's avatar

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's away from Disney we go! Amen.

Julie's avatar

Goodbye Disney+, which was far over priced.

Vive la résistance!!

Nancy's avatar

I was mightily disappointed to find that Disney now owns National Geographic... X-P

We have issues going back to darn near the turn of the 20th century somewhere, weighing down the crust of the Earth in that spot... :-/

Michelle Baldwin's avatar

I cancelled my subscription this morning, Id rather give my money to God. He's cheaper and far more entertaining

Julie's avatar

The renewal $ for the now canceled & delete Disney+ account will now be going to our local PBS station instead as we do watch their programs (in addition to their monthly PBS Paasport @ the deal of $5/momth!). God was joined a while ago😇

Michelle Baldwin's avatar

Thats a great idea, I'll do the same thing with the other half of the money I won't be spending on Disney+ anymore ❤️

It is said that, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

But mark my words — we’re learning there’s a corollary:

Hell hath no fury like the Egomania of a President scorned.

Now, if grown-ass adults would stop spending their vacations at amusement parks meant for children, maybe we could make a difference.

Maria K.'s avatar

There is nothing wrong with adults allowing themselves to have fun now and then. Disney can go pound sand but if my friends with kids want to do the otter slide at my local nature center - good on them and have fun. People don't have a lot to be happy about these days - if cuddling a plushie or petting a llama helps them get through the day, then let them. Adults doing kid stuff is not the problem.

Kaiannanthi's avatar

Damned straight! No fun-shaming here, thanks!

Maria K.'s avatar

High five! SweeTV had updated its Halloween tiaras collection. And Squishables are the best.

Nancy's avatar

Just like animation is "only for kids"?

Hardly.

It's a story-telling medium. That's all. I've seen R- and NC-17-rated things that were animated; I've seen old-timey cartoons from the 1930s, '40s, even '50s that kids wouldn't get at all, but adults would, and found hysterical (though still "clean").

Hell, did you see the first "Despicable Me" movie? If you don't have kids, you probably didn't, but at one point, Gru, the lead character/bad guy, needs to grovel before the head guy in charge of the Bank of Evil for a loan and present his glorious plan as collateral, in a sense. In a brief flash, we see the sign of the bank as: "Formerly Lehman Brothers." (at the 0:34 mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zse8F7Pqha4)

What kid would get that? ;-)

There's also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2HAgQYSv5w

Spock: "The term is 'amusement park'."

Caretaker: "Of course!"

Spock: "An old Earth term for a place where people could go to see and do all sorts of fascinating things."

[...]

Kirk (James T.): "The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play."

Waitaminute, did you mean that in a resigned sort of way, or literally? Are they pulling all that down, too?? =8-0

As the old saw says “ if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen “. Benedict Donald and his cohorts are taking away our rights, one by one. We must do all we can to stop them. The most important thing we can do is vote. Just because this isn’t a Presidential election, don’t think it’s not important. Many states are electing Governors. In my state, we are voting for state Superior Court Justices. If you want to see change, you have to vote. Please make the effort. If you are not able to drive, there are volunteers. You can also boycott by not spending money at places or companies that are known to support MAGA. Don’t think that one vote or one dollar isn’t important. They add up!

Andra Watkins is going to post a comprehensive list of businesses in her substack rhinitis. You should subscribe!

Kim Bart's avatar

Fucking auto-correct! Not rhinitis, tomorrow. ffs

Rachel C's avatar

Your typo made me laugh out loud! Your good deed for the day!👹

Kim Bart's avatar

I feel such a sense of accomplishment! 🤘

Nancy's avatar

Heh! :D

But how did auto-correct get "rhinitis" out of "tomorrow"? :-/

Yet another reason I refuse to do auto-correct and don't use my "smart" phone for anything other than typing in "Stop" to all the folks who suddenly found our home phone number can now get texts (because AT&T killed our old landline system without bothering to inform us [like they had our DSL without informing us; we were without any Internet for 2-3 WEEKS until we got cable just for that], so now we have to have a "cell station" for our landline, and a stupid "smart" phone to make it work). X-P
