Great article but I am not sure that I would give the military brass that much credit. They should have arrested both of them, taken them in secret to Leavenworth then taken over the government until elections could be held.

Jayne Spence's avatar

Stuff of dreams. Let’s hope they remain steadfast when the time comes.

Daryl's avatar

A military coup? Nah, that does not usually end well. We're supposed to have civilian rule. Just not these particular civilians.

laura oshea's avatar

But I asked that they require elections to replace any arrested seditionists.

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Yes, and that would be the correct thing to do. I like this line of thought Laura, although I prefer my own solution which does not require violence of any kind, nor any arrests, just a simple crash of the economy on YOUR terms. See my posts.

laura oshea's avatar

Yes anything that will work. I just saw a post that showed there are 1,135 billionaires in America and they control $5.7 trillion dollars. The next 140 million people in America only control $4 trillion. Any damage that can be done to them would be lovely!!!

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Laura I like the way we think alike! Please subscribe to me - I just have to you! Now as to those billionaires. At present their needs are being met by Trump. But if you Americans could just stop - for say, a month - purchasing anything but essential food, meds, shelter and fuel/energy, the billionaires would line up like lemmings to jump off the cliff into the arms of American democracy, the hypocrites. The beauty of this scheme is that nobody knows who is not purchasing. When you don't buy, you leave no trace. So nobody gets hurt except Trump and his overlords and minions. Yes, jobs will be lost - and there may well be food queues in the very short term - but surely your freedom is worth that? I've been trying so hard to get this message out across all my SM platforms, but very few people appear to be listening. It should surely, at least, be discussed? Or are Americans so wedded to the latest Reebok or handbag that they'd prefer slavery? I just don't get it.

Theodora Monegan's avatar

Um, that's called a coup d'eta, and more grass roots support is required. The the fat guy and besotted guy are just the faces, let's ensure the billionaires behind the curtain are outed!

GigiDimeg's avatar

coup d'état Is correct. The second t is silent.

Carla Jo's avatar

It is French coup = blow, d'etat = of state

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

Thank you for correcting him.

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Couldn't agree more. They will head for the hills as soon as Fat Boy Not Slim is ousted. And the hills need to be ready to catch them!

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

The closest thing that this would be is a military coup d’etat

Tim's avatar

I never thought I'd see the day when I wished for a military coup in the US, yet here we are...

Tim's avatar

It's a sad day...

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Me took and I'm an Aussie living in Europe. But what happens in the US affects all of us, everywhere in this world I'm afraid. At least until it becomes a complete banana republic with no economy or influence whatsoever...and that will happen in due course if FatBoy has his way.

John S. Way's avatar

Would be a somewhat dubious look (because military coups dont really look great) and one that probably would have incited a LOT of violence from the MAGA base.

Would love to see it, but the military also still has protocols and everything. Much as Kegsbreath would like it, they can't just go mowing down Americans willy nilly. I'm firmly of the mind that the entire administration and every republican crony, stooge and accomplice needs to be removed for their part in aiding and abetting this absolutely horrendous criminaln shitshow, preferably without violence.

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Laura I think that may well come if there is no other choice. What your responders have said is correct ie that this would not be correct in a democracy or a civilian-led society. But desperate times require desperate measures, and unless some other good idea comes out of the sky (I have one STONKER of a good one that I've been repeating and posting about ad nauseam but it seems that no-one is listening) I think a military coup with the intent of immediately holding elections thereafter may be the only solution. I'm quite sure that this is being quietly discussed behind closed military doors...

Lizzie's avatar

The silence was deafening! Hegseth made an utter fool of himself trying out his comedic skills but it all fell flat. The military brass has seen clowns before and they weren’t having it.

JP Connolly's avatar

Right! Deafening silence does a very fine job, much better than boos. Silence is a blessed insult on occasion.

Dawna Stromsoe's avatar

I hope having to fly in from all over the world to listen to the two bombastic ignorant incompetent idiotic quislings has caused the military brass to quietly begin a detailed plan to end this fascist shit show. A plan of course not leaked on signal, social media or to the legacy media. Dear God, the exquisite silence was beautiful and a sign of hope that we WILL prevail.

Tracy L Cooper's avatar

My hope is this has spurred the military to action.

I'm aware in most countries a military coup is a very bad thing, but this one is needed.

I also hope that their commitment to the Constitution is worth more than their pensions to them.

TuffPEX's avatar

What’s even worse is the way tRUMP welcomed his military brass, telling them to applaud him or lose you careers.

I would think that the only worst way to welcome them would have just called them “Suckers and Losers” what a shit stain this fat orange fuck is

Jayne Spence's avatar

Hegseth led the Generals with a speech that came straight from a video game. Trump couldn’t stand the silence. He thinks the military loves him.

Leu2500's avatar

“Crawling out of his skin.”

Also a sign that the alcoholic badly needs a drink. Or something stronger.

Sarah Brennan's avatar

Hegseth is so deeply corrupted, so deeply insecure, he probably, fundamentally, hates himself and the Silence of the Generals can't have done that any good at all - hooray!

Betsy L's avatar

Nobody claps after a military briefing. You just don't. Now, the generals may have been glad that military protocol allowed them to get out of finding a reason to clap or cheer, but I'm sure they were just following protocol.

Denise Alden's avatar

You're right: they were following protocol that Kegsbreath and Mein Fuhrer are completely unaware of: both of them were absolutely expecting thunderous applause to telegraph military support, and they were both butt hurt it did not materialize.

Hello darkness, my old friend

I’ve come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone

‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share

No one dare

Disturb the sound of silence

“Fools” said I, “You do not know

Silence like a cancer grow

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach you”

But my words like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed

To the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

In the words that it was forming

And the sign said “The words of the prophets

Are written on subway walls

And tenement halls

And whispered in the sounds of silence”

Dori's avatar

Koko, we helped end a war with words like these and many others. We can do it again! So proud of the Democrats for finally standing up to this evil administration and saying, "No more!"

Amazing song and lyrics. Love Simon and Garfunkel. My folks had this LP in the Sixties and we kids played it constantly. Still gives me goosebumps.

Carla Jo's avatar

The cover by Disturbed hits even harder.

Dori's avatar

Carla Jo, I'd never really listened to this cover till now. The way the original was a calling to us in the 70s, this is definitely the anthem of today. Thank you

Dori's avatar

Punkette, I still have mine, and it is in perfect condition. So many wonderful songs from them

Punkette's avatar

That’s great, Dori! For those of us who grew up during the Sixties, Simon and Garfunkel (and many other wonderful musicians) were the soundtrack of our childhood. Weren’t we lucky! I love their songs still.

Dori's avatar

Yes, we were very lucky! Many of the songs from that time are just as relevant today

Punkette's avatar

Yesss! 💗 Our generation was blessed with the best music. I just recalled another fav from elementary school:

Peter, Paul and Mary: Leaving on a Jet Plane

I wish I had your confidence that the silence was due to disapproval... The generals and staff have been trained for years to keep a silent and straight face in most circumstances. I am sick at heart and praying that things hold and we don't descend into Civil War.

Maria K.'s avatar

I am glad the generals did SOMETHING - like being silent. It would have been more satisfying if they had gotten up in unison and marched our of the room. It would be even more satisfying if they'd given an order to their staff to be trickled down to all branches of the army to show up the next day dressed as Boy George.

Betsy L's avatar

Have you ever served in the military? I can't believe all the comments that say the generals should have walked out. That's not how the military works. The Secretary of Defense gives you an order. Unless it's illegal, you salute and move out smartly. This wasn't an illegal order, just a stupid one.

Maria K.'s avatar

No. I was brought up primarily by military men but when I applied for jobs in the US military, I was rejected because I was an immigrant who grew up in the Soviet Union. I was thus considered unreliable.

Walking out would have made it more meaningful, precisely because it would have been extraordinary. What would Hegseth do? Fire all of them? That's the point - the unprecedented breakdown of the safeguards and controls in our government requires unprecedented measures.

Judi Purcell's avatar

From what some of his aides are saying, I wonder if hegseth isn't in the throes of some kind of withdrawal? Drugs because he's not allowed to drink?

Sarah3000's avatar

The irony of the Criminal-in-chief, who evaded the draft due to 4 fake episodes of bonespurs, telling 4 star generals that they should applaud for him or lose their jobs is just too much. Along with the DUI Denfense Secretary lecturing them is the height of hypocrisy. This is a prime example of the saying, "I wish you the same level of confidence as a mediocre white man." Anyone else would realize how absolutely ridiculous these two mediocre white men look trying to school battled-hardened generals.

Bren M's avatar

These generals aren’t stupid. They know what they’re seeing. Those two morons were an emphatic reminder of why our military swears an oath to the Constitution and not an individual. They knew it too.

FuriousMissM's avatar

This old white hippie says Praise God, we will fight fascism together!

FuriousMissM's avatar

Er-hemmm, peacefully of course❤️

Gilamarth's avatar

So two things.

- Living life and making decisions based entirely on ratings does not translate well to the US Military..

- Trump able to quote hitler proves there are Mein Kampf audio books out there

LJ57's avatar

That would be an audio book crime
