“Thou Shalt Not Mistake Peace For Weakness”

The biggest message from #NoKingsDay Trump needs to learn!

And a big Amen on a general strike! 👍

Nancy's avatar

Next time, I'll make a sign with that quote! :D

And attribute it properly, of course... :)

Amen! A general strike is the next step. Hit them where it hurts.

We need to cancel Black Friday, the whole weekend and Cyber Monday! I saw this suggested multiple times on Sat/Sun after No Kings, lets make it happen!!!!!

Nancy's avatar

I usually don't get anything on those days anyway, 'cause I'm too poor. ;)

But this year, I might just tell Amazon it's because I'm protesting... :D

PhunnyPhillyGirl's avatar

I have been SCREAMING "General Strike". They will keep going until we make them stop. Amen, @God! Amen!

A general strike is a brilliant idea. Onwards. Where do we start?

Go to generalstrikeus.com. Sign your card. The strike will be called when enough people sign up. I’m retired and I signed up!

I've signed my card!

Thanks for posting that link.

Dear God: We MUST reduce, reuse, recycle, reduce capitalism to rubble. They understand only one language and its C.A.S.H. They don’t want us to see them with their hands in our pockets. Rupert Murdoch agreed, “It is not red or blue, it is green”.

Nancy's avatar

Rubble. Ruble is the Russian currency; not sure I want to reduce even capitalism to that! If nothing else, I think it's going down the toilet in value faster than the dollar is. ;)

Thank you. I’ll fix it. Barney and Betty send their regards.

When are we striking? I own and operate a veterinary clinic and want to be prepared! I will ask my entire staff to participate; we will make sure we are stocked and don't need to make a single purchase on that day. I will make food for my staff so they won't have to eat out. I'll advise them to make sure they have gas, etc. so none of us have to buy anything on that day!!!! WE NEED A GENERAL STRIKE!

General strikes work when there is a major power imbalance as there is now in the United States.

"For as long as there have been tyrants, there have been workers who refused to serve them.

"Marches show unity for a day. Strikes hit the billionaires where it hurts.

"One stops traffic, the other stops profit.

"That is why the rich fear it so much. Because when you pause the economy, they finally have to listen.

"For a recent example, just look at what happened when one million Americans suddenly cancelled Disney Plus to save Jimmy Kimmel’s show!

"You made a mega corporation reverse course within two days."

When Jesus overturned the money changers' tables in the Temple, it wasn't because He had any particular quarrel with the money changers. Jesus was very much aware that all Temple transactions had to be done in shekels. Rome occupied Judea, and Roman currency was the standard currency by fiat. Regardless, all transactions to obtain the needed sacrifices (doves, sheep, etc.) had to be done in shekels, and the money changers' job was to transfer Roman currency (or any other currency) into shekels.

We have electronic money conversion which tells us what our dollars are worth in euros, or rubles, or yuan. Imagine having to make these conversions, which changed daily, without the use of electronic means!

Jesus knew very well that by disrupting the flow of income from the bottom -- where the money changers were -- meant there would be no sacrifices in the Temple; and if there were no sacrifices, the Temple priests would not be getting any money and He would be hitting the priests where it really HURT.

Most of the Judean population were dirt-poor; but the Temple aristocracy were very wealthy -- and they were also very much in cahoots with the Roman government.

Jesus, who already was a Pharisee in the Hillel tradition -- as opposed to the very rigid, followed-the-Law-to-the-Letter Shammaite Pharisees, who are what Jesus referred to when he condemns "The Pharisees". Jesus may well have been a Zealot Like most Jews in Judea, He found the idea of Romans living in Judea incredibly offensive, and He wanted the Romans OUT.

The Shammaite school was predominant in Judea during Jesus' lifetime (and that's why He got in such trouble with the Temple aristocracy); but the Hillel school eventually won out. The Judaism we know today is based on the principles of Hillel, where we write Torah in our hearts and express it in our actions.

Thank you. I didn't know any of that. I am neither Jew nor Christian, but I am always curious and open to learn.☮️

Those who can should strike until the House reconvenes. No work until they get to work!

Nancy's avatar

Ooh! That'll put Mikey's nuts in a vise! :D

"Their power depends solely on your participation" - so true.

It's our choice and option to give that power to them or not to !

I've started seeing a call to boycott Black Friday and Christmas in general. Any Christmas gifts can be homemade or purchased from small local businesses. These big corporations rely on the Christmas season. If enough of us do it, it will hurt them. Amazon, Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Sephora, Home Depot... who else? Can we get Indivisible to lead the charge?

Nancy's avatar

Or, do what I've been doing for my extended family these days: donate to a charity in their name, preferably one that can give them something tangible for it, like Christmas tree ornaments for "buying" a bunch of trees to be planted where needed. :)

They'll get any physical things sent out from the company and an email notice; no wrapping, no shipping, and NO SUPPORTING OLIGARCHS. ;)

Carol Bradstreet's avatar

Good idea. If you must purchase gifts, do so from local businesses, or even a thrift shop. Reduce, reuse, recycle. I'd rather have something handmade than more useless junk I don't want or need. Or, a donation to a charity I support would be much more meaningful. Gift cards to a local grocery store would be welcomed by many.

It was a beautiful day and peaceful bunch at our version of the #NO KINGS! So darn proud of all of those that participated and all the signs and chanting and marching! Let's do it again and SOON!

Jeffrey Oswald's avatar

Contrast this with the mess left behind at the CK “memorial” in Arizona last month. “God forbid people clean up after themselves.”

Bren M's avatar

That day should be Black Friday. Don’t buy a thing. Stay home and let the stores have all their debt on their tariffed merchandise for a day. Didn’t Jabba say we were only entitled to two dolls for Christmas? Make sure they’re not entitled to even two dollars of your money.

God! You’re absolutely correct, as usual!

The Oligarchs took control of our government!

The Oligarchs starve our people, take away their healthcare and assault us in the streets!

The Oligarchs must be punished!

Let’s stop feeding their egos!

General Strikes NOW!
