I think... a lot of us would want it back - but better. Bring it back, clean up the mess, and then build something awesome out of it, based on lessons learned. Unfortunately, we don't even know if that's going to be an option for us, because the Orange Yam is already working on rigging the 2028 election.

And then there are my fellow immigrants who, like me, spent many years fighting for the right to live and vote in this country, only to have avalanches of hate crashing down on our heads. So... I am sure many of us are wondering whether we are wanted here at all or whether we might be better off somewhere else. Sadly, up and moving to another country is a very tough and expensive proposition. Had it been just me, honestly, I would have taken off and tried my chances in Canada. But... it's not just me, and I am not leaving my dogs and cats in MAGA hands.

breathepresence's avatar

No!! "They're eating the dogs! "They're eating the cats!" With millions of Americans left without SNAP or healthcare, who can say??

Rachel C's avatar

We want you here. We will need you to help put things right when this is over. 👹

Maria K.'s avatar

I'll see what I can do. ;-) You know what's funny? I was one of the tech kids who were brought to the US on an academic scholarship established by George Soros, because he was concerned that the US pool of engineers and programmers was less than great, and Y2K was only a few years away. So... cleaning up a mess is why I am here in the first place.

JustTanNotOrange's avatar

Oh! We REALLY need tech people who are on the right side of history!

There are... but it may not matter. One of the most commonly asked questions today - both inside and outside of the United States - is, "How is he getting away with this? Isn't that un-Constitutional? Illegal?"

Well... the whole reason Founding Fathers gave us three branches of government was to have them keep each other in check. So, technically, the Congress and SCOTUS is supposed to put the brakes on the President, if he goes off the rails. And SCOTUS and the President are supposed to put pressure on the Congress, if it starts slacking.

EXCEPT. Right now all these three branches are under the GOP control, so all these safeguards are breaking down. Trump is doing illegal, un-Constitutional things daily - but the GOP-controlled Congress is not doing anything to stop him. He could have been impeached a dozen times at this point. 25th amendment should have his picture next to it. But impeachment and invocation of Constitutional amendments to remove the sitting President are the jobs of the Congress - and our Congress (or the GOP part of it) is not willing to do those jobs.

So... when it comes to the elections, remember Trump had - to THIS DAY - not conceded the 2020 election. He still insists it was "rigged". Back then, he had to clear out. But now, he has his butt firmly planted in the Oval Office and is not interested in leaving. So, he will do everything possible to disrupt the 2026 and 2028 elections and stay in power. There will be voter roll dumps. There will be suppressions. There will be harassment. There will be closures of voting locations. There will be long lines. There will be ridiculous restrictions on people standing in line for hours being able to get food and drink. There will be a crackdown on mail-in voting. This is all coming.

Don't get me wrong - we are all still fighting. We are not giving up. But this is a very scary time. Two friends of mine, who were American-born, left a few months ago and went to live in France. Literally waited for their last remaining cat to die and then went. Mother and daughter, the daughter is trans, and, the way they described it, they didn't want to sit and wait for Gestapo to come breaking down their door. I don't blame them for one second. That's USA today for you...

So... the idea you could pitch to the Canadian government is to call Poland and brainstorm with them. And here is why.

When Russia unleashed the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 2/24/22, Poland took in 8 million Ukrainian refugees. Poland's population is about 1/10th of that in the US, so .... that's an equivalent of the United States taking in 80 million extra people in a matter of just a few months.

Now, some of these refugees went back. Some went to other countries. There are still 3.5 million of them living in Poland. And not like... living in homeless shelters. Oh no! Poland wasn't playing. They found these people jobs. They found them housing. They put their kids in kindergartens and schools. They gave them accelerated language learning classes.

I mean... it was one of the most spectacular humanitarian efforts in history of Europe - and nobody talked about it. I know about it because I am a first-generation Ukrainian American, my parents live in Ukraine, my best friend lives in Poland, and I have been to Poland twice myself. So... if there was EVER someone who could provide some super-useful tips on how to take in a MASSIVE amount of people and get them settled reasonably comfortably - it's Poland.

Canada has a large Ukrainian and Polish population - so they could probably provide some ideas too. War, strife, military coups, idiot orange presidents aside, global mobility right now is limited to the young and the unattached. ... And to the very wealthy. If there was anything the COVID pandemic had taught us, it was that we desperately need the way to move people to safety and to enable them to work from anywhere in the world. This is just an extension of the same thought process. We need more ways for people to function from wherever and to get them where they need to be, regardless of their age, wealth, or family status.

Joe Biden sold $12 billion in soybeans to China. This year they’ve turned to Argentina, buying not a bean from our bumper harvest.

Nancy's avatar

Er, why can't we sell those beans to people who need them? Like, PEOPLE STARVING IN THE U.S.A.?? That's what I don't understand! "There are crops rotting in the fields." And people are starving HERE. What the hell will it take? :-/

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

Soy dairies could sell yummy reasonably priced carryout treats to hungry Americans, feeding people with our own bounty. Golden okara patties, sizzling soysage, chocolate soymilk and plain soymilk. Pennies a gallon, easy to make. The residue from milk production creates okara, easy to transform into a hot meal. I’ve got the recipes, picky kids devour this food. Soyboy Scott isn’t listening.

Should Canada win the World Series maybe he will finally stroke out for good? Go Toronto!

Nancy's avatar

Hey, EITHER ONE! X-D Can't recall if it was Jimmy Kimmel or Steven Colbert who speculated, "Will the winning World Series team be invited to [what's left of] the White House?" One's from Canada, one's from CALIFORNIA (specifically, Los Angeles... X-D), both of which he detests. :)

I'm still enjoying the lovely flavor of the Reagan ad days later. Hee hee hee!

I am surrounded by farms. There are four fields of soy that haven't been harvested and two fields of corn still standing. These are massive acreages of food that farmers aren't pulling down because it costs more to run the harvesting equipment than the fields will sell for. This is on one road, I haven't been driving around the other farms in the area to see how many more fields are still standing.

Tariffs are awesome! How can people not see that? The thing that kills me the most is there are still zambonied brains out there who believe that other countries pay the tariffs. They truly Iive in another reality.

Thank you for putting King Orange Jellybean on blast God. Every day your smites bring me smiles.

Nancy's avatar

Seriously...and we have people starving here in the U.S. X-P

Didn't the Orange Julius Caesar have to rescue them back in Trump-Dump 1.0 with bail-out subsidies? Will that happen again or not? :-/

TrashPandaParty's avatar

He bailed them out last time when he pissed off China in 2018. Then they voted for him again because they have less memory than an orange peel. He is supposedly going to pull money off the tariff shelf to bail them out this time. That has yet to happen though, from what I have read.

He doesn't care if people are hungry here. He's focused on The Epstein Memorial Ballroom and foreign affairs. He thinks if he does good things for other countries he'll get the Nobel Peace Prize. I don't think he realizes that the prize committee knows he's committing atrocities in the US, crimes against humanity, starving his people, and war crimes in the Caribbean.

Geez, the 🍊🤡is never going to STFU about that ad. Btw, remember comedians used to mock the shit out of Nixon and Reagan. The both of them were thick skinned grown up adults because they would just shrug it off or ignore it and move on.

Brenda J Tate's avatar

The funniest part, from a Canadian perspective, is that the tariffs are imposed on the American end so buyers in the US have to pay them. We Canadians don't. We pay only the tariffs our own government imposes on US imports. So our PM lifted some of those tariffs, which enables us to buy a few more American products without paying extra. Win for us. Not so much for the rather overburdened Americans who are now stuck with the added Trump tariffs on their end. Does this man not think things through?

Don't get me wrong: most of us don't like Trump. We're not fond of his followers either. But we like Americans as friends, allies and relatives (I was named for two American cousins, way back). We hate to see this guy screw over people who don't deserve it - and many but not all of his targets didn't vote for him in the first place. They're in a mess not of their own making, You (God) help 'em!

I’m Canadian. I support these ads. Trump is untrustworthy. We need to cut ties with anything USA and move on to trade with other countries.

I'm a dual and live in the US. I'm actually just on my way back to the US after visiting my family. I stay up to date on Canadian politics fairly well & I've been seeing this a little differently. I really don't see his antics as helping & the $75million ad buy could have really helped laid off auto workers. What I see in this is a big power play for him. With Pierre Poilievre's popularity slipping & his upcoming leadership review in early 2026 I think Ford will do a grab for federal leadership & force a national election & beat Carney. Then he'll go right into Trump's pocket.

Somebody should tell him that real polling doesn’t consist of only asking his gameshow host cabinet if he’s good.
