I made this joke to my husband this morning when I woke up saw the pope had passed. He didn't seem to find it funny though. Weird how I saw posts and memes all over the internet today making the same joke. Maybe it was still "too soon" when I said it?

Allison T MacKay's avatar

That was what I originally came here to say 🀣

Allison T MacKay's avatar

I wasn’t joking, it was more of a knee jerk reaction!

Nancy Melito's avatar

Both husband and daughter independently said the the same thing!

Allison T MacKay's avatar

It was timely, not sure what your husband was thinking😊

You can never be too early too soon.

Keep on keeping on AD.

When I heard the Pope met with Vance before he died (on DemocracyNow), that very thought went through my mind but I didn't say it out loud. Yesterday my daughter told me there were memes everywhere about that thought. Hopefully Vance will be remembered this way!

lmbober's avatar

yes - too too soon - not funny - I'm not catholic but am very sad - there are so few good people anymore - I'm 87yrs old - greatly disappointed in mankind - everything is going to pot - angry and sad for younger generations - we have left them a terrible mess

Never too soon. Hubby just too late.

c wood's avatar

it's never too soon regarding Vance.

God, your words are comforting, especially after hearing MTG spewing hateful nonsense about this good man.

John S. Way's avatar

I'm sure his final sermon will be well recieved...except, of course, by the "Christians" that seem to orbit Trump.

Mary Ann Brown's avatar

I think that was exactly who he directed the sermon toβ€”the Christian Nationalists.

John S. Way's avatar

Then sadly, his words were wasted. They will never listen to anyone who tries to be progressive.

Nancy's avatar

Is there a transcript of it somewhere on the 'Net? I hadn't heard it on Sunday... :(

John S. Way's avatar

It's in the article somewhere I think

Nancy's avatar

Ah! I mean, though, is there the entire ceremony on the 'Net? :)

John S. Way's avatar

Ahhhhh. Probably on YouTube

Lisa Nystrom's avatar

The poor Pope should have taken his cues from Greenland where JD Vance is concerned.πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

John S. Way's avatar

I'm sure he would have considered it, but he was a very magnanimous person, so...

Lisa Nystrom's avatar

I understand the principle… just not sure I agree that it made a difference either way in JD’s vacant cavities that are supposed to hold a brain and a heart.

John S. Way's avatar

It likely didn't, but I'm sure the Pope felt it was worth a try.

As I said in another post - if those Catholics who voted for trump can believe they see the face of Jesus in a slice of tomato. or Mary in a pancake - they must SURELY take this as a sign from God.

I feel sorry that the Pope’s last moments on earth were spent with JD Vance. I sincerely hope he enjoyed time with more decent people before he passed.

Gently, Jack Jones's avatar

Well think of it this way-at least he got his time in Purgatory out of the way by meeting with Vance for what must have felt like several million years!

Karyn Milos's avatar

Today also marks nine years since Prince πŸ’œ passed away. I hope he welcomed Francis with song and guitar!

No doubt singing β€œLet’s Go Crazy” 🎢 🎸

What on earth is the matter with Marjorie Green? Has she got a soul, God - or do You make an occasional mistake?

Jan Frederick's avatar

If she has a soul, God may not be the one in possession of it.

Carol's avatar

Hmmm, yes. I might be asking in the β€œwrong place.”

Karyn Milos's avatar

I don't believe in hell, but I will gladly join all who are willing to build one just for MTG. What a vile excuse for a human being she is.

God, give the man a hug from me at the Pearly Gates. Although I have issues with part of Roman Catholicism's beliefs, I found Pope Francis's example of humility and service to the downtrodden and marginalized to be a moving example of how to be a better person. I hope the next Holy Pontiff is not a backlash conservative.

LJ57's avatar

Many folks from denominations other than Rome admired Pope Francis for his humanity and for his humility

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

Even atheists like me found a lot to admire! :) He seemed like a really good guy in many ways, and I was sad to hear of his passing. Jeez, to think JD Vance was one of your last visitors! Ew! :(

Shey's avatar

That’s my worry too regarding the next pontiff. And I’m a fucking atheist, but I admired how Francis was trying to nudge the church in the direction of right-side-of-history.

Nancy's avatar

To coin a phrase, Amen! :-/

May the next one be John XXIV: the man, the story, the words, the actions! That so many of our own bishops here (and the occasional cardinal...) openly spoke against THEIR BOSS suggests that the Church needs another Reformation, another Ecumenical Council.

Sandra Cockrell's avatar

When I read the headlines this morning all I could think was β€œOMG!! Vance killed the Pope.” I didn’t want to post a conspiracy theory, but holy coincidences Batman! Thankfully you did not disappoint. Vance really needs some holy water.

LJ57's avatar

The Holy Water would sizzle as soon as it touched JD Vance

GigiDimeg's avatar

I felt exactly the same. Now if we could get JD to shake hands with mtg.

Nancy's avatar

Nah, they'd fuse into an even bigger construct of awfulness. X-P

Jan Frederick's avatar

Maybe the Pope just got tired of all of the crap coming from Chump's administration and JD was just the last straw for him. May Moron Taylor Goon get one of your best smites for that comment she made. She would sure deserves it! Thank you, God! Amen! Awomen! Ramen!

Sooz Hall's avatar

Moron Traitor Goon?…

Jan Frederick's avatar

Thank you!! I just couldn't think of a name for the T !!!!

John Pullen's avatar

I've been using Empty Gee.

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

Thank you God! I needed your words to confirm what J.D. did!

He probably doesn’t even care but he does care that we’re talking about what he’s done.

P J Johnston's avatar

Dear God I was waiting for this analogy and you came through. I truly agree there are no coincidences. I said this morning I thought it was wonderful that the Pope held out through Easter, but after all he did meet with JD Vance and his wife. You can't make this stuff up.

Let us quote MJT's tweet as her obituary when she finally goes the way of all flesh.

Well, Bless and Save us!! Tis not a miracle, but tea flying out the nose is not really a super power, either.

Thank You! And A-'kin-men!! Laughing out loud feels great!!!!

Keep that shit up, Blessed Ones!πŸ˜‡πŸ˜˜
